TorrentFreak reports:
Last weekend there were local elections in the Czech Republic, and the local Pirate Party [had] dozens of candidates on the ballots.
The Pirates campaigned with a program that advocates more Government transparency, more involvement for citizens, less copyright monopolies and the use of free software.
This message was received well by the public as 21 Pirate Party representatives were voted into regional parliaments. In addition, several other Pirates gained seats through the lists of other local parties.
One of the biggest victories was booked in Mariánské lázně where the Pirates came out as the biggest party with 21% of the total vote. [Google translation fails] This means that the Czech town may soon have its first Pirate mayor.

Socialism, not communism. Communism is about building a classless socialist society, ie a proper superset. Not that socialism is appropriate either, the pirate movement is pretty much anti-authoritarian as opposed to anti-market.

This isn't a bug. This is the way the local elections work. Every citizen has more than one vote and in big cities you need much more votes to get to the city council. This makes sense - if you vote in city that has 1 M citizens then the voted council will have less representatives than 1000 cities with 1000 citizens.

Yes, that would be the results for the city Marianske Lazne, which is a town with an average size (14 000 people). The whole results could be obtained from here: http://volby.cz/pls/kv2014/kv?xjazyk=CZ&xid=1 [volby.cz] . Especially the majority of votes for the Pirate party was from Prague: http://volby.cz/pls/kv2014/kv1111?xjazyk=CZ&xid=1&xdz=4&xnumnuts=1100&xobec=554782&xstat=0&xvyber=0 [volby.cz] . I'm from Czech Republic and while this might be a good news for the pirate party, it is not a big deal. They've gained 21 representatives out of 62121 which is really not much. The reason for this is, the were somewhat successful in Prague, which has around 1 M citizens. The way local elections are conducted in Czech Republic is, that every citizen has as many votes as there are representatives in the city council. So for example every Prague citizen had 65 votes. That is why they got so many "votes" but that doesn't mean many people support them. They can however to the parliament next year with 5% or so.
