El Reg reports:
Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has joined the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), as an adjunct professor. Woz will teach in the "Magic Lab" (Innovation and Enterprise Research Laboratory), School of Software and the Centre for Quantum Computation and Intelligent Systems at UTS' Faculty of Engineering and IT.
Magic Lab director Professor Mary-Anne Williams has allowed herself to be quoted saying Wozniak is the "coolest person in the Universe" and "loves the energy, the vibe and the robots in the Magic Lab."
"Woz constantly highlights the new possibilities for technology to change the world and enjoys sharing his insights and experiences," Williams added. "The students have been totally wowed by the attention he has given them--one claiming he had changed her life in less than 60 seconds."

Sooo... why did Woz pick Australia? He seems to lean to the left politically, but we Aussies are lurching rightwards along with everyone else. I'd heard he was in favour of the NBN (National Broadband Network), but that has been hobbled eg. changing from fibre to copper for the last mile. (It has been suggested that this was to protect Murdochs Australian cable investments. Murdochs media empire got them elected [crikey.com.au] after all). For an amusing though biased five minute rant [youtube.com] on the nature of this Aussie lean-to-the-right check out the linked video. Our politics are from the standard conservative (though increasingly bipartisan) playbook... basically favouring certain industries over the environment and social services, while distracting the populous with fear of job losses, crime and terrorism.

I beg to differ that we are lurching right. Yes, the government is.
However the government was elected mainly due to the incompetence and squabbling of the last left-centralist government. Given the 2 party system, their rejection necessarily meant Liberals got in, and to be fair many people I know believed it wouldn't be that bad (as things were GENERALLY OK under the Howard Liberals for a long time).
If Liberals maintain a majority at the next election (HAHAHA!!) then I will believe you, but I don't believe that will happen.
TLDR version:
We have swayed right temporarily to pimp-slap the previous government.

No. It is correct. Australia now has another health tax. The economy is tightly balanced. No one wants an Unauthorised Maritime Arrival tax which is currently being discussed to pay for the billions it has cost to deal with illegals. No one wants to pay for the war against ISIL. So, Right we are.
