Spotted on Hackaday is this neat clock project which writes the time on a whiteboard.

This device runs on a PIC16F1454 microcontroller. The code for the project is available on GitHub. The micro is also connected to a 433MHz receiver. This allows a PC to keep track of the time, instead of having to include a real-time clock in the circuit.

There's also a link to a similar clock plotter project.

Don't worry, you just put them back the way you found them (upside down in some kinda stand, or on that metal rim at the bottom of the board) and they will magically replenish themselves ... at least it seems like that is the way it should work cause everyone does it when they run out.

I just love starting class by doing the whiteboard pen test to see which pens work and which people think it was an awesome idea to just leave there. I started to just carry an extra set of pens in my bag these days. Most of the time I bring them with me when I leave tho, since I'm a bastard and not in the business of handing out working pens to people that can't be bothered.

But think of all the workers who make a living writing the time on blackboards. This is why robots are evil!

Why don't computer monitors have an option to simply display the time when the computer is in suspend mode or turned off? The monitor should have a black background with perhaps white or red text (or a color of one's choosing) that moves around and uses very little power, kinda like how tablets do. When the computer turns on the monitor can have an option to automatically synchronize its time with the operating system and when it's turned off the monitor can simply keep track of the time and display it.
