California gray wolves will now retain their protected status even if the population rises to 50 or more:

The California gray wolves will keep their endangered species protections even once the rebounding animal hits a population of at least 50, state wildlife officials said Wednesday.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife published its plan for managing wolves late Tuesday, setting its policy for the species that is making a comeback to the state after it was killed off in the 1920s.

"Wolves returning to the state was inevitable," said Charlton Bonham, director of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife in a statement. "It's an exciting ecological story, and this plan represents the path forward to manage wolves."

The plan marks a shift in course, dropping language from an earlier draft that directed officials to remove wolves from the list of animals protected once they reached the critical mass.

Wolves in California were hunted to extinction nearly a century ago, but a lone wolf called OR-7 crossed the northern border from Oregon in 2011. OR-7 and his mate have had a litter for each of the last three years, and cameras caught another family pack in Northern California, but it hasn't been spotted in several months, wildlife advocates say. Officials say it's hard to say how many wolves roam the state today, but their numbers remain small.

Wolves tend to be good at culling the game populations of the sick and old, leaving more resources for superior deer to florish, which as long as wolf populations are not allowed to explode should make for better hunting.

There are people who can't run like a greyhound and fight like a cape buffalo. Are they just supposed to die? Wolves and coyotes know not to eat the walker, oxygen tank, adult diapers, and glasses.

But think of the children. Really! I should be able to send my children outside to play without worrying about whether they can fend off a pack of wolves. Shoot 'em all says I.

Seriously can I ship them in I would pay for shipping. I would like to get rid of the wolf pack near where I hunt in northern Minnesota and some genetic diversity sounds like it is needed there in CA with only 2 original breeding pairs mentioned in the summary. We have our save the wolves people here in MN in the Twin Cities area but they mostly don't have to deal with them while those in out state MN tend to subscribe to the 3 Ses of wolf management (Shoot, Shovel, Shut-up) as they are getting to be problematic as their numbers have greatly increased.

Also can I ship in 3 packs of coyotes that yip and howl at each other all night that share inhabit the immediate area around the lake my property is on. Either that or someone needs to take me coyote hunting so I can learn how to do it and I will solve the problem myself.

        Hi there, I'm Clippy!

I see you're attempting to have an impassioned rant. Let me help!

You start out with an indication of considering felonies. Good call - this isn't an actual specific proposal that could get you indicted, although you might be on a watchlist. Livin' on the edge!

You create a false dichotomy between hunting for food and being "a lazy, cheap, idiot". You seem to ignore people who hunt for fur, for ecological balance, for varmint control or to piss you off as well as people like you.

Try including a better selection of explanations to attack, and watch your little tantrum expand into a true rant!

      Coyote hunting is pretty simple.

First, get your varmint rifle. I recommend a .22WMR, or (depending on ranges and preference for centrefire) something like a .223 or maybe even .250. Load with something that expands fast, like a Hornady V-Max.

Make sure it's needlepunching accurate. Don't skimp on quality glass.

Coyotes tend to be creatures of habit, so do your planning. Find their tracks, and then stake those out. They're also stupid enough to return, the same night, even to chew on their own dead. If you sit tight for a whole night you can kill a dozen in the same place.

I am not familiar with your local hunting regulations - check those out yourself. You may need a fur ticket.

It's the city people who romanticize about bloodthirsty killer beasts. The city people vote for this shit, but it never happens in their neighborhood.

Let's fence off the peninsula with San Francisco, guard the bridges, and release a few thousand of these "harmless" and "adorable" predators. We can do wolves, coyotes, grizzly bears, panthers, jaguars, bob cats, raccoons, coral snakes, and skunks. The animals are so cute! San Francisco will be even more wonderful will all these sweet and adorable creatures. Even the most underprivileged people, such as differently-abled people sleeping on the streets, will get to experience nature.

BTW, the rest of the country will want video. So um, we can be jealous of your cute animals.

        Good idea!

For round 2, you can do Seattle. Also, up the ante with wolverines. Lots and lots of wolverines. They're cuddly! They just want a hug. Send Junior out to give the ol' wolverine a big ol' hug of suburban love!
