Not even 8 months after my home state of Arizona voted against recreational legalization in part due to meddling and hack science, Colorado has reported that since the beginning of the year they have made $620 million in sales with $95 million of it going to the state1.

Meanwhile, Jeff Sessions continues insisting that marijuana will lead to the fall of society.

So have crime increased? Some sort of increase in violations where weed could be a contributing factor (such as driving while high or similar). Is the fabric of society in Colorado ripping apart due to rampant drug use and stoners everywhere?

From what I gather it's "... a myriad of taxes and fees has boosted state coffers by a total of $506 million" in about three and a half years, or 41 months. Which evens out to about 12.3 million per month -- all months might not be equal but on average. But it's been more as of late since it seems to be delivering about 19 million per month so far this year.

Where did all the money go: "51.2% of the money has been directed toward education with $117.9 million used for school construction projects. 14.2% went towards substance abuse prevention and treatment and 11.9% went towards regulation." still unclear where about 22.7% went as the article doesn't go into all the details. Then there is "Pueblo County used $420,000 to provide college scholarships to local students. Aurora City managed to put $1.5 million towards fighting homelessness and the city of Edgewater repaved all its streets, fix miles of sidewalks and help fund a new city complex with cannabis tax revenues.". I guess it was money well spent? Better paying for that then going down the pockets of some Mexican drug lords. That said are there any drawbacks? Any at all? The articles doesn't seem to mention any.

In SoCal tax money set aside for schools also went into "school construction projects". They put up a new chainlink fence on one school to replace one that didn't have anything wrong with it. Meanwhile teachers are asking parents for school supplies because there wasn't enough in the budget for the school to buy them. Long story short... Tax funds went to some politicians uncle that had a fence business.

Hint: Money directed to education is basically reducing property taxes, and by tiny virtually un-noticable amounts since education is so fabulously expensive in the first place, $19M per month is less than 4% of the total cost of public school education in Colorado.

...boosted state coffers by a total of $506 million"

Illinois is so broke thanks to two crooked governors and two incompetent ones afterward that we came close to junk bond status. If Illinois legislators weren't drooling idiots they would legalize pot for all adults, like Colorado, instead of jst for certain ailments and for everyone else simply decriminalized. Marijuana is big business whether legal or not! And you can't tax something that's against the law.

Of course, next to Sessions they look like geniuses.

the drawback is that if it were legalized but not regulated The People could decide how to spend their money without The Leech Class taking a large cut. just b/c the gov report says $% went to education, most of it actually got wasted on slave pens/school buildings, ripoff textbooks, shitty teachers/propagandists, useless admins, etc. I do agree that it's better than giving it to foreign cartels, but just a little bit.

I suspect the first sentence meant to have a different state name than the second sentence.
Maybe Arizona voted against recreation the first time. Maybe some other state. But Not Colorado.

It was meant to contrast aforementioned meddling and hack science with the smooth transition Denver had - and that all the problems that were claimed for prop 205 are human created. Prop 205 was the recreation proposal. It did not pass, we're still medical only.
