Business Insider:

According to the Washington Post, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said in the past that the Model S is "a little too guy centric." It's an issue that the company is actively trying to correct with X, a vehicle that's expected to cost between $50,000-$70,000.

And it seems to be working, with more than half of the pre-orders for the Model X coming from women.

That's certainly a good thing. In 2014, women account for 40% of the nearly 17 million cars and trucks sold the US, the Washington Post reported. For crossover SUVs, that number is closer to 50%.

Do EVs really have gender specific appeal?

Women only account for 40% of car sales... It must be because our male dominated society is actively preventing women for owning an equal number of cars!!!
I hereby propose that our government should mandate subsidies for women buying cars, and men must be prevented from otherwise buying a car if it is found a woman is also interested in it, regardless of which party is making the better offer.

    /sarcasm

Seriously, why is this even an article, apart from the clickbait women vs men angle... "company realises it can increase sales by targeting a wider audience and decides to do so. News at 11."

Maybe only 40% (of direct sales? Citation needed), but apparently 80% of buying decisions:

So only 20% of cars are bought by men without a woman making "suggestions".. Wonder if that includes "yes, you can have the F350, but only if you remodel the house/paint the house/take me on holiday"?

Considering they've got ¾ the income of men, that seems about right.

Oh, you thought you were being clever!!!
