Apple Inc. has disbanded its division that develops wireless routers, another move to try to sharpen the company's focus on consumer products that generate the bulk of its revenue, according to people familiar with the matter.

Apple began shutting down the wireless router team over the past year, dispersing engineers to other product development groups, including the one handling the Apple TV, said the people, who asked not to be named because the decision hasn't been publicly announced.

Apple hasn't refreshed its routers since 2013 following years of frequent updates to match new standards from the wireless industry. The decision to disband the team indicates the company isn't currently pushing forward with new versions of its routers. An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment on the company's plans.

Routers are access points that connect laptops, iPhones and other devices to the web without a cable. Apple currently sells three wireless routers, the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Time capsule. The Time capsule doubles as a backup storage hard drive for Mac computers.

Was playing a ps3 game, cat was nosing around in the wiring hell that is providing my entertainment center power. Tried to shoo her away from there, she ignored me. Got the message "no ethernet cable detected". Did the whole laptop connected networks thing, then the phone thing, then got off my ass and saw she'd pulled a brick out of it's power strip. Evidently the brick that went to my router, cuz after about 5 minutes everything was working again.

Stupid cat, this morning she'd found a razor to play with. I use an electric razor, with disposables in the medicine cabinets. Where she found this one I have no idea.

yeah. at least my son grew out of the "ooh, a cable, I'm going to chew on it" phase at some point. not sure when, because he didn't really have access to cables after a couple of events.

as a long time cat owner: the arrival of the thin displays really messed up our lives. with a big CRT screen, you knew the cat was going to stay on top of it as long as it's on, because it's warm. now they have to crawl all over the place to find different warm spots, and I guess master's belly is not accessible while computing, so they go for power bricks.

hmmm, I think I should patent patent and anti-cat power-brick covering.

      Anti-dog chewing would be extra.
