Apple unveiled its new iPhone models on Tuesday -- but while some tech fans applauded the new phones' design and specifications and others weighed in on their pricing, another feature has caught the eye of trypophobia sufferers everywhere.

The Pro and Pro Max phones feature three camera lenses. And while the design is likely to appeal to photography fans, some social media users say it is triggering their trypophobia -- an intense, irrational fear of small holes and clusters of circles and bumps, such as those in a honeycomb, lotus flower or bubble bath.

Research into trypophobia is limited. Geoff Cole, a visual scientist at the University of Essex in the UK, told CNN that while it might seem "a little bit odd" for people to feel uncomfortable at the sight of holes clustered together, for people with trypophobia, the images can cause a range of reactions, with varying levels of severity.

an intense, irrational fear of small holes and clusters of circles and bumps

Aka, the male incel virgin iPhone owner is terrified of the nude female body.

The chad Android owner, on the other hand, casually picks up phones by sticking his finger right in the "camera" hole the first time they meet.

How is this not the hottest meme on the planet right now?

Many years ago I saw photoshopped pictures like these and the image has always stuck with me.

Would I say I have a phobia? Hell no. But I do understand where self-described trypophobia people are coming from.

One article I read, but can't find again, said one of the more commonly accepted hypotheses is related to bees, wasps, and other stinging insects. They commonly make hives and nests, and what do they look like? A plain background full of large, closely-packed holes, that can have different shades due something inside (e.g. an insect, prey, or food store). What do pictures of the phone look like? A plain background with large, closely-packed holes, with different shades due to something inside (i.e. the lenses).

Maybe its an eye contact thing where I can have a staring contest with a tiger having two eyes but have anxiety if a large number of eyes are looking and even worse maybe baked into the instinct if there's an odd (ish) number then I'm missing what some predator (or, maybe delicious prey on the hoof) is looking at.

I could see walking around with an artificial plastic wasp nest and holding it to your face and stuff could be pretty disturbing. Of all the ways phone style fads could have gone over the last 20 years I never would have guessed "emulate stinging insect nests"

    ... naked woman.

Another one: incel beta male orbiter iPhone user is scared of the fun parts of naked women, whereas the alpha chad Android user confidently walks right up and grabs em by the camera hole.

Yes I admit my V.35 thinQ screen is only 6.00 inches long, which is supposedly average, and I know very well there's some ipad screens out there that are 10.500 inches long, but lets face it, I'm the guy whos sticking my finger in camera holes a couple times a day, I'm not the guy too scared to even look at it much less play with it, so ....

I mean, with Potholes, shower drains, sinks, cell phones, computer ports, docking stations, mines... - pretty much everything in life involves a hole or a port of some kind... and the camera lenses aren't holes at all - they're completely covered with a mini camera inside.
Why is this even making the news?
I sneezed last week in public and I probably offended quite a few people. News at 11.

Although flippant, I do in fact understand that those who have this understand that it is an irrational fear. I guess I just don't understand why it took a 3-camera iPhone for this type of phobia to trigger this news story. In case you want a serious answer, for many people that does have close enough "holes" or big enough ones to trigger the phobia. Plus, an iPhone release is going to get more press, as is people's negative reaction to it, compared to some Nokia phone out of sheer market percentage, raising the requisite probabilities of seeing either.

Well it really is fucking ugly and for the FORM before FUNCTION company to make such a hideous monstrosity with all the shit sticking out on the back of the phone, they COULD have allowed the inclusion of a headphone jack. This just proves that it was never about space usage...it was simply a way for Apple to screw over the customer by making them use their earpod garbage and therefore locking them in forever into the AppleBorg.
