It's been a long, hard road to this point, but I'm pleased to announce that effective immediately, we are officially accepting subscriptions to SoylentNews. Subscription support is an important step in helping make SoylentNews successful as an independent entity that is fully funded by its users. In case you don't remember, here's the rundown of subscription features:
You can purchase a subscription on your user panel, or by clicking this link. Subscriptions are $20/year, and you can be reminded via email when that period is coming to an end via subscription settings. All payments are currently processed by PayPal, but we hope to add new merchant support in the future.
Here's hoping to seeing lots of stars in the near future!

Great work setting this up. Hopefully enough money will be raised to buy you a company jet, or at least keep the site running without staff having to dip into their own pockets.
Could we see some stats after a few days, of how many people have signed up?
Anyway, the steady rate progress on this site is greatly appreciated and also my mug is pretty cool.

I would like to see a sort of "funding meter" that shows the status of incoming money (subs, swag sales and anything else) versus expenses (including salaries).
Put it right on the front page, maybe in a default slashbox. That way everyone in the community is aware of the financial health and if there is a short-fall you don't have to beg because we'll all know it.

I agree, not from a "lemme look at how much you are spending" point of view, more towards getting an idea of how financially healthy we are.
Plus if there's a shortfall or a big expense coming up, I will give more in a way of a one-off donation, not too sure but I hope that are other people like me here, who are ready to help.

Yeah, I'm not too interested in the expense breakdown. Just the general health.
