Max Von Sydow has passed away on 8 March 2020 at the age of 90 at his home in Provence, France.
A film icon, versatile actor, Max Von Sydow was part of many sci-fi movies now cult classics. Flash Gordon, Conan the Barbarian, Strange Brew, Dune, The Minority Report, and The Exorcist to name just a few. Some may also remember him as the voice of Vigo the Carpathian, in Ghost Busters II.
I will always remember him as Ming the Merciless.

And absolutley no mention of Von Sydow's role in Bergman's seminal "The Seventh Seal," [wikipedia.org] that, among other milestones, was basically the film that exposed the world to Von Sydow. It's like saying of Brando, "memorable roles in films such as "The Island of Doctor Moreau," and "The Formula."

Old fart here. Sorry, I can barely remember von Sydow's Ming the Merciless when stacked up against Charles Middleton. But for everything else, all the way to the Three-Eyed Raven (even including his valiant effort to save Dune), RIP.
And now his watch is done.

Submitted it myself some hours after this was posted and now playing catch-up ball after I looked to find my submission's fate.
Ming was excellent. As was Judge Fargo in the Stallone Judge Dredd film (yah, low brow appreciation for it). And Dune. And Shutter Island.
