After the uproar on the internet covered here yesterday, Groupon appears to be backing down on its Gnome trademarks, and says it will choose a new name going forward.

I think GNOME did the right thing by showing that they were prepared to defend their 'trademark'.
They had no choice, if they wanted to maintain the validity of the mark. Trademarks must be vigorously enforced at every challenge, or the mark holder risks losing it.
