As the saying goes, opinions are like assholes; everyone has one. But not Google's executive suite these days. When Google restructured itself as the "Alphabet" holding company, the visionary IoT and science projects were moved out of Google division, and Indian-born Sundar Pichai was named CEO of the core Google company which handles search, Android, YouTube, and all the other high-volume IT stuff. And that's a good thing, according to a couple ex-Googlers interviewed by Re/code: "All the assholes have left" ; Pichai apparently has a rare blend of hard and soft skills.

At Google, this guy has moved upstairs. And apparently having a CEO who was a brilliant entrepreneur but also a complete jerk was hardly unique to Google, Steve Jobs being the canonical example among tech CEOs. We've recently learned about the way Jeff Bezos runs Amazon. An obvious question from these examples is, can an ambitious tech company rule the universe without being run by assholes?

    As Mrs. Birkenbihl, a recognized psychologist and management trainer, once said, only about ten percent of the population possess both hard and soft skills. So having one of those as a CEO is like winning the lottery (since, as this CEO shows, a CEO will prefer like-minded people).

    Google has a chance to not fall into the trap others have: They are very large and as such, when numbers don't quite match expectations, managers tend to try and get more work out of their workers by limiting their freedom and thus creativity. And while it's true that in large companies, a lot of lazy baggage can creep up, this also kills worker motivation and ingenuity across the board. It kills loyalty and as we know, only a loyal and motivated worker ever goes that extra mile for his company. In fact, to even view a company as "yours", you desperately need loyalty and motivation.

    Hardliners are good at pressing the last drop out of a company, more often than not leaving a shriveled husk behind. Google might just manage to avoid that.
