Police are attending a shooting in California, with reports of 20 victims, say officials.

From the BBC:

Fire officials in San Bernardino said it was responding to a "20 victim shooting incident" and it was working to clear the scene.

ABC News reports that there are 12 people dead but police have not confirmed that number.

It is still a "very active scene" and police are trying to secure the building, said a police spokeswoman.

There may be up to three gunmen, she said, and they were heavily armed and possibly wearing body armour.

Come on, California has a long held supremacy in the anti-gun laws and policies. The regulation here is onerous and absurd. California ATF will not approve anything for individual citizens, and Sheriffs of multiple counties will only allow concealed carry in cases of dire need where an explicit threat has been made. In short they (we) have fewer second amendment rights than almost every other state in the union. They are seriously going to start making us do a background check to even to purchase ammo over the counter.

In spite of this California's crime statistics are just as bad or worse than any other state. LA county ranks way up there for gang and gun violence, despite having even harsher laws enacted to restrict firearms.

Honestly, France is lightyears ahead of us on anti-gun laws and they still suffered from a terrorist attack that used illegal weapons. Banning something doesn't magically make it disappear.

Getting rid of a simple mechanism that you can hold in your hand will not stop people killing each other. period. Getting rid of firearms has not even been conclusively shown to reduce violence. You'd be much better off focusing your efforts to save the human race on some other realistic goal that has shown results, like the elimination of poverty or free access to mental healthcare.

I'd take their murder rate over ours any day.
