The electricity is sourced from solar panels, wind turbines, and heat from biogas. In addition they have a backup wood chip furnace. They also have a fairly beefy battery of 10 MW capacity to help level the fluctuations in production. The village runs its own grid and pays less for energy.

The project cost each villager €3,000, but now they pay 31 per cent less than the standard rate for their electricity and around 10 per cent less for their heating. The project has also created about 30 jobs. None of the villagers complain that the turbines are an eyesore.
Last I checked [zerohedge.com], France pays about 45% less for their electricity and they didn't have to sink 3k euros. When are we going to see the economic magic from renewable energy?

When non-renewables get so costly that you no longer can afford them. Assuming we don't figure out fusion by then, that is.
