On Tuesday morning, the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District, a governmental agency which operates hundreds of schools in Los Angeles and nearby areas, sent all its students home. The agency did not make its buses available, but instead asked parents to pick up their children from outside the schools. Superintendent Ramon Cortines ordered all the schools in the district closed because of a threatening message regarding "many schools" which was received by a member of the school board. Cortines called the closure a "precaution based on what has happened recently." Police and the district's "plant managers" are searching the campuses.

From Reuters:

The unprecedented move left some 643,000 students of the Los Angeles Unified School District and their families scrambling to make alternate arrangements and drew criticism as officials in New York said they received the same threat and deemed it not to be credible.

A law enforcement source told Reuters that Los Angeles authorities ordered the closure to allow a full search of about 900 public school facilities without consulting with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which takes the lead on any potential terrorism investigation.

I guess we can also agree that someone thought of the children.

but yeah, I guess this differs from how fox news had a segment where they taught kids to run at their attacker and try to disarm the person.

So, I see wisdom in turning tail and running away to live to be a frightened parent who picks up their own children some other day. A kid disarming an active shooter seems like that would end poorly.

Sadly I have to agree with your statement. It wasn't always like that. I remember a time when Americans would look danger in the face and laugh at it with contempt, and great herds of Iguanodons roamed the plains.

So much has changed it doesn't even feel like the same country anymore.

Quite, down with this sort of thing:

The news reports of this story announced the last IP address was somewhere in Germany, like that means anything these days.
Its like you just can't pound basic facts into the press.

Mean while all sorts of excuses are being made for real worrisome findings in the phones and baggage in the possession of so called refugees in Norway, according to Norwegian [nettavisen.no] and Russian [rt.com] sites.

This is why I'm truly ashamed of this country ATM, we went from a country that looked at true horrors like the Atlantic wolf packs and the Kamikaze and refused to back down to a country where the young demand "trigger warnings" at colleges and anybody can make the most random of threats and shut down entire areas. Lets face it we are gonna end up with 1984 alright only its not gonna be "big brother" its gonna be "big mommy" and the young will embrace it with open arms as big mommy will promise to babyproof the world.

I've been dealing with young folks in retail since the mid 80s and this latest batch? They are fucking scary man, they have ZERO fucks to give about losing any freedoms as long as the government offers to kiss the boo boos and make it better. Government track everybody with their cell phones? "Gotta be able to track possible terrorists". Government and insurance corps tracking people with those new low jack style transmitters? "My insurance is too high and if this lowers the price I'm fine with it". Government actually trying to dictate what you eat, drink and breathe with proposals like sugar taxes and banning e-cigs without any evidence they are dangerous? "We pay for their health insurance through our taxes so have a right to make sure they don't cost us too much money"....I swear to fucking God people this is the kind of shit I hear coming from the mouth of millennials all. the. damn. time. and as long as the outcome is to somehow sanitize or babyproof the environment they live in? They will happily sign off on it, freedom be damned.

To be fair, e-cigs do contain a bunch of nasty chemicals, which are likely to be trouble regardless of not having had time yet for long-term studies.
I don't smoke them, but some guys do seem to take pride in blowing the nastiest-looking giant clouds of smoke, which drift around in ways even cigars and cigarettes don't.

Healthier than cigarettes? Most likely. But that's the excuse of people using them a lot more than they should, and it's not going to be neutral on health.

Uhh you DO know that most of the "studies" the government uses has been paid for by a PAC that is owned by the big tobacco companies? There is a REASON why they want to ONLY block the e-cigs made after 2007, because guess who owns the brands that were out in 2007? RJ Reynolds and Lorillard.

But that isn't the point, the point is as long as you sell it as sanitizing or babyproofing? The millennials are all for that shit, because they want to live in Mr Rogers neighborhood where they get to go through life without a single thing in the world offending them or disturbing their myopic worldview, loss of freedom be damned. I mean for fucks sake when you have comedians as bland and non controversial as Jerry Fricking Seinfeld that won't go anywhere near a college campus because they scream "ist!" at every damned joke? this generation be severely fucked up.
