Don't underestimate the power of the Force ... or inflation. Box-office analysts predict that in dollar terms, The Force Awakens will be the biggest earning movie with Star Wars in its name. But such measurements almost always fail to account for inflation. In real dollar terms, none of the sequels/prequels have surpassed the original Star Wars (later subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope).
A New Hope was a smash success financially, a bona fide blockbuster in the dawn of the blockbuster era. With cinemas screening the original Star Wars for most of 1977 and 1978, the film garnered $512 million in ticket sales. What's truly incredible about that figure is that movie tickets in 1977 cost just $2.23 on average. That means about 230 million people went to see the film, slightly more than the population of the U.S. at the time.

Here's what I remember as a 9 or 10 y/o kid -- Star Wars was OK, but I loved Star Trek The Motion Picture. Honestly, I've never been able to get into Star Wars. I did see the remaining two movies, but on VHS, and only once each. While they were OK, they just never sparked my imagination. As corny as they can be though, I've seen all the (pre-JJAbrams) ST movies multiple times (that Abrams one from a few years ago once, and none since).

Yes, there is something wrong with you, but let's stick to what you're saying right now....
While I can't see how those two movies didn't spark your imagination, I can completely understand why you loved the first Star Trek movie as much as you did. That movie was beyond awesome at the time, and honestly, I don't think the TNG movies ever exceeded the enjoyment and quality of the original Star Trek crew and their movies. Picard and his crew are enjoyable, but they're not James T. Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Uhura, McCoy, Sulu, and Chekov.
In fact, I'm going to say the original crew could kick the butts of the TNG crew any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.
Technically, lunchtime is at any moment. It's just a wave function.

I saw the first J J Abrams movie as well, and I have tried watching the second one several times, but the garish CG crapfest just can't keep my interest for very long, I always end up turning it off again.
The worst is people who are not star trek fans and know very little about saying how much these movies are true to the star trek style. Ughh...
