We all know the story. The moment that computers with their lightning-quick processing power and interlinked systems gain sentience - it's judgment day. But would that really happen? Here are some psychological reasons why digital super-intelligence isn't going to be evil intelligence.

At the top of the main page it tells how many submissions we have to work with - over the holiday period it has been down to 5 at times. Now, not all submissions are worthy of being accepted. We have to take the best that we have and provide them for discussion. To fill a 24hr period requires, on average, more than 30 good stories. We are not getting that. Many people seem to have commented on the thread in a sensible manner. True, it is not the best tech item we have ever published but it is of interest to some people.

We are a community. We rely on all of our members to submit articles that interest them. We will publish them and see what feedback we get. That way we can gauge what the community wants and try to meet it. The other site spoon-fed its 'audience' - we are trying not to go down that route. We want to encourage discussion between members of the community on topics provided by members.

I have tried to find a story that meets your interests - but, unfortunately, you haven't specified any interests on your home page. So I looked at your own submissions to get a feel for what areas are of particular interest to you. Point made, I believe.

Help us to help you - preferably by making submissions or, as a minimum, tell us what you do like and we will try our best to find suitable stories for you from those that are submitted by other people.

We don't want you to leave, we value all of our community members. But my crystal ball is broken and if you feel we are missing the 'good' stories, the solution is in your hands.

    Regards

I think it's FAR better to slow down to very few stories per day, than to accept weak stories just to keep pace.

bart9h - Thanks for that. It is something that we have pondered ever since the site went public. Of course, there a some(many) stories that do not even make it out of submissions, but that is another story.

The downside to your suggestion is, if there is nothing posted for say 4 hours, everybody believes the site has shut down or is broken. Still, we will try to think of a better solution to the dilemma.

Thanks again - useful feedback is always welcome.
