A new map of the human cerebral cortex has been created:

A detailed new map by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and associates lays out the landscape of 180 areas of the cerebral cortex in painstaking detail; 97 of these areas have never been previously described.

The new map is intended to help researchers studying brain disorders such as autism, schizophrenia, dementia and epilepsy. They will be able to use it to understand differences in the brains of patients with these diseases, compared with adults who are healthy. It also will accelerate progress in deciphering the workings of the healthy brain and elucidating what makes us unique as a species, the researchers say. The new map will also be vital for neurosurgeons.

Think big, what if these scans can provide a reliable way to tell if someone is lying? Conservatives would be fucked. Progressives, ditto.

In many cases, they are not lying.
Significant portions of both sides of that divide actually believe what they say.
The wetware they got at birth is biased and the media they consume again and again reinforces and expands their belief systems.

Despite the Reactionary|Conservative view that selfishness works well (despite ample evidence that a nation of mostly poor people is not a strong society) and the Liberal[1] view that allowing an elite class to be greedy then trying to subsequently tax away the wealth of the overlord class and redistribute that (which the wealthy then claim is theft) works well, neither notion has been shown to lead to a long-term stable society.

That Capitalist system of haves and have-nots is a phase we will pass through just as slave economies and Feudalism have passed into history as inferior systems.

[1] You have lumped all Progressives together; I try to avoid that.

...then there are actual Leftists who have observed that Capitalism (a system of increasing inequality) is fundamentally in conflict with Democracy and leads to Oligarchy (numerous examples, increasing in obviousness weekly), and that Socialism ("Democracy Everywhere") works well where it has been tried.

N.B. Spain has a very noteworthy example in Mondragon (founded in 1956) and Italy has a 3-decade history with many thousands of Socialist worker-owned cooperatives, which are also known for not exporting jobs and not engaging in the race to the bottom for the society.
