Blake Krikorian, longtime and much-beloved Silicon Valley entrepreneur, died on 8/3 [August 3]. While the cause of his death is still unconfirmed, he was apparently struck by a heart attack while surfing in the San Francisco area.

The news of his passing has slowly been making its way this morning through the tech network that he was a big part of. Krikorian was only 48.

Considered one of tech's savviest execs with regard to video and media distribution, Krikorian was also one of its most ebullient characters and was never shy about expressing his opinion about anything.

Krikorian is survived by his wife Cathy and two daughters. His death leaves them, and all of Silicon Valley really, devastated.

So the current meme is that the human brain doesn't finish developing until mid to late twenties.

That doesn't leave a good deal of time to to make your mark on the world while in full command of your faculties. Full maturation at 40ish, and then a slow decline.

    So 7 years.

Although I'm not quite 47, I recognize the damnable idiocy that is youth. In short- too stupid to know how stupid you really are.

I'm doubtful the young would make for a better world, given the seat of power.

At best, they are begrudgingly tolerated until they hopefully pull their collective heads out of their asses.

I haven't noticed much groundbreaking research coming out of the valley either.

*sigh* I see I have to dig up those quotes again.

Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers. -- Socrates, 400 BC

I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly disrespectful and impatient of restraint. -- Hesiod, 700 BC

Our earth is degenerate in these latter days; there are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end; bribery and corruption are common; children no longer obey their parents; every man wants to write a book and the end of the world is evidently approaching. - Assyrian tablet, 2800 BC

We live in a decaying age. Young people no longer respect their parents. They are rude and impatient. They frequently inhabit taverns and have no self control. - Egyptian tomb, 4000 BC

Don't sell the movie rights. You too can be filthy rich just like George Lucas and write about the ends of worlds just like George Lucas.

Difference being those quotes were written by people who had actually left mom's basement before the age of 35.
