A duo of computer experts at the University of Birmingham, Flavio Garcia and David Oswald, have uncovered two flaws in VW's keyless entry systems that could allow hackers to remotely unlock over 100 million cars sold by the firm since 1995.

The first vulnerability gives hackers the ability to remotely break into nearly every car VW has sold since 2000, while the second impacts "millions" more vehicles including models from Ford, Peugeot and Citroen.

I bought a 3rd-hand golf that came with 1 dumb key. Already on a low rung here and don't even know if my car has a transponder built in :-P If I understand this replay-esque attack I'm safe assuming there is no "golden key"...

That would be a "Golden Backdoor Key, with Flourishes" if it was a Microsoft system. Oh, god no, please, don't say it was a Microsoft system! Argghhhhh! First it was IBM doing the data crunching for the Third Reich, Better Dying Through Computing, and then the total mess up in the Final Countdown Downunder!! And now, The Evil Empire of Redmond, conspiring with the spawn of Adolf's promise that every German should have a car, even if it was a shitty, underpowerered car that would Carbon Monoxide poison you with the heating system, in order to secure our boarders who want a free on board ride via Uber, as in Ubermensch, and ; ; ;; ,..k;kd;jd; It all becomes clear to me now. They never lost, they just went underground, capitalist underground, and now they are back, back to unlock our cars against our will! Are we going to allow this? I say, NO! Who's with me! What, just you, jmorris? Wait, you didn't buy a TDI too, did you?
