Alphabet/Google's spending on Google Fiber will be scaled back dramatically, due to high costs and the company falling far short of its 5 million subscriber target (there are around 200,000 customers instead):

[The Information] also reports that CEO Larry Page has demanded that Fiber "reduce the current cost of bringing Google Fiber to customers' homes to one-tenth the current level" That should be interesting. Google Fiber will be scaled back to just 500 employees, half its current staffing.

But wait. Wasn't Google "killing any doubts about its national ISP intentions" just two months ago? Sort of. From now on, Google will focus on selective wireless, rather than wireline infrastructure. It's a lot cheaper. The San Jose Mercury was the first to report the scale-back a fortnight ago.

Also at The Information (paywalled), USA Today, eWeek, and Salon. Ars Technica also has an article about Google Fiber doing battle with AT&T over access to utility poles.

Yea, Google seeing literally everything and anything that goes through my internet pipe is a GREAT idea!
But use a VPN, I hear you say. To which my answer is: I should not have to put a lock on my door in order to prevent you from coming in uninvited.

You say GooFi but it could also refer to their MVNO [wikipedia.org] plans, reported here:

So really, you should add "GPS location" to your list.

In a fit of paranoia, you set up a VPN server, but you forget to change the resolv.conf on your VPN server, and all of your DNS queries go to 8.8.8.8 because it was the default.

The terms of service for google fiber forbid them from doing that. Uf they did start doing it any more than they do it to the customers of any other ISP, they'd have significant legal problems. They might change their terms some time in the future, especially if they millions of customers (thus making it worthwhile to start spying on them), but for the forseeable future you should be safe.

Meanwhile, as a gigabit fiber customer I use a VPN anyway because I don't want a constant and unique IP address that can be logged by every single website I visit.
