SoylentNews is people

Since many people are claiming that small noises are a pain, Logitech set out to design mices which are about 10dB less clicky than the usual ones.
At around 25dB, the M220 Silent/M330 Silent Plus are probably near the noise floor of most office spaces, and surprisingly not a premium product (under US$30).

That doesn't sound like a bad thing for people with small places and light-sleeping partners either. Are Soylentils really bothered by Joe-the-spreadsheet-clicker, or do you believe in counter-offensive?

Logitech no longer makes a corded thumb track-ball.

    They are dead to me.

Well, they probably found that too few customers had corded thumbs.

They died to me when they stopped making the original logitech portable trackman.

For those of you too young to remeber that one - it was wonderful; the thing can be rested in you hand (imagine how you fold your hands in you lap when sitting down) and operated with a minimal and very natural thumb-motion, and the buttons follow naturally along your index-finger and allows for you to use either left or right button simple by chosing between a flexing or closing motion of the index finger (middleclick requires a thumbmotion however).

Quite frankly they are the only non-pen pointing device I've ever used that felt comfortable even after several hours.

(IBM produced a similar thing that was slightly small and a bit more flimsy - still run circles around pretty much anything non-pen being sold today)

The quality has gone down as well. The wireless ones have a 3 year warranty, but unfortunately you need it. They die every 6 months. They are repairable as well though (generally switch failure) and occasionally they will let you keep the dead one. I'm going to try one of their Japanese competitors and see if they're any better.

      Which Japanese competitors?

I love me a good, corded optical mouse with several extra buttons. Razer is/was garbage worse than current Logitech, in my experience.

I rather like my Roccat Tyon, though it's very much a fancy blingy thing that screams 'game peripheral'.

At least the driver lets you turn off the lights.

They stopped making the Trackman Wheel?! I have one of those on my desk that I use it for gaming (much to the bewilderment of my friends).

...man, that's really gonna suck when my bearings wear out.
