In a final ruling announced Friday, the Food and Drug Administration is pulling from the market a wide range of antimicrobial soaps after manufacturers failed to show that the soaps are both safe and more effective than plain soap. The federal flushing applies to any hand soap or antiseptic wash product that has one or more of 19 specific chemicals in them, including the common triclosan (found in antibacterial hand soap) and triclocarbon (found in bar soaps). Manufacturers will have one year to either reformulate their products or pull them from the market entirely.

[...] The ruling does not affect alcohol-based hand sanitizers or wipes, which the agency is reviewing separately. It also does not affect antiseptic products used in healthcare settings.

The difference between living in the United States in the mid 20th and early 21st century is today we have imported millions of street shitters to the US.

As for banning antibacterial soaps, this is the kind of pseudoscientific thought I would have expected from a President who campaigned on the idea that vaccines cause autism. The real reason antibacterial soap does not work is because people don't wash their hands nearly as long as they need to. It's an educational problem, not a problem with effectiveness. There is a fuckton of inerrant reporting going on. The top reported sentence in the AP article is that antibacterial does not prove effective against viruses. Well no fucking shit, do you not know the difference in bacteria and virus, antibacterial and antiseptic?

Cool. Modded down for speaking the truth. If antibacterial soap is not effective, why the fuck does he medical community get an exemption to keep using them?

Truth is: we imported a fuckton of people who were never taught good hygeine, and FDA decided that the potential risk of superbug antibacterial resistant diseases was not offset by people having the ability to properly wash their hands.

Antibacterial works when used properly. Medical community gets that. Street shitting Khan doesn't.
