In the past two weeks, the Democratic presidential nominee has faced increased scrutiny from critics to take questions at a news conference — something she hasn't done in 273 days.

[...] New York Times columnist Jim Rutenberg criticized Clinton for her aversion toward the press in a searing piece on Sunday, and CNN senior media correspondent Brian Stelter has not been shy when offering his opinion.

"She is acting in some ways as if she is already president," Stelter said in a recent CNN appearance. "By not acknowledging the importance of a press conference, the uniqueness of a press conference — it makes me wonder how accessible she'd be in the White House as president."

[...] The campaign, which did not return requests for comment for this story, frequently cites a figure that asserts Clinton has granted more than 350 interviews this year.

[...] Holly Shulman, a former spokeswoman for the Democratic National Committee, told Business Insider that technology has changed the way candidates run for office and suggested there was less of a need to lean on the press to disseminate a message.

"Campaigns have changed," she said, noting that candidates can now reach voters directly through social media. "[T]his type of direct engagement has a much bigger impact on voters' decisions."

[...] Trump has continued to spotlight Clinton's refusal to take questions from the media in an open setting.

In recent weeks, the New York businessman's campaign has sent out an email each morning reminding reporters exactly how many days it has been since "hiding Hillary" last held a press conference.

[...] Brian Fallon, the campaign's top spokesman, seemed to acknowledge the importance of one on Friday. He promised ABC News that if elected, "Hillary Clinton will hold press conferences."

Roughly well enough to become a historical also-ran. Trump may be a loudmouthed ass-hat but at least he can make a good swing at anything thrown his way.

I was gonna link some polls to show that the Donald is not doing so hawt, but check this out:

      http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/?ex_cid=rrpromo [fivethirtyeight.com]

Trump managed to double his % in about 2 weeks in polls-only to above 28%, and has over 30% in polls-plus.

Let's be real. No one is getting off their ass on election day to vote for anyone.

We're going out to vote against the greater evil. The great game of our day is to divide into two teams, based on who we fear most, and then fight each other to the last man. So we can be replaced with H1bs who know better than think they have rights.

And, I'm sorry to break it to you, but the fix is in. Trump's not just a grade A moron, he's an old friend of the Clintons and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they asked him to run for the Republicans just to make sure there weren't any unreliable elements on stage this time.

It's a bit odd to see Trump actually trying. I'd bought into that conspiracy theory as well, that he was solely running to throw the election in HRC's favor. First he starts using a teleprompter to give speeches that aren't just rambling nonsense, and now he's showing up at black churches?! Very interesting.

As far as I can gather from his supervillain origin story (too lazy to link), he's always wanted to be one of the Red Dresses (would link to David Icke Wikipedia article but image can't be unseen, either that or I'm having a brief allergy to anchor tags), but he's just not a lizard, plain and simple. They never quite let him in to the inner circle. Supposedly, if he is running in earnest, he's doing so to spite the Red Dresses.

The best I can come up with, assuming the conspiracy theory that he's trying to throw the election is correct (in spite of the above), is that he's now attempting to quash any attempt by Libertarians and Greens to gain legitimacy.

That is an interesting theory. Donald is hired to destroy the Republican party, create an epic extremely impressive (best you've ever seen) Overton Window effect for Hillary, and then end up with a white nationalist media empire.

Theory or not, Donald does one hell of a job at distracting people from Hillary.

The whole point is to predict the probability of each outcome, which is why polls-plus exists (to use historical data and predictive trends instead of just the polls).

I don't get your insistence on bashing these predictions. Yeah, we can say that the predictlords did not predict Trump as the nominee, but at the same time, his poll numbers went up and up as more candidates got fired^H^H^H^H^Heliminated and voters changed their minds. Now Trump faces the general electorate, with many more centrists. Maybe it's time to bet some money on Trump vs. Clinton if you're feeling so confident (inb4 the election gonna get stoled)?

You talk of likely voters, but it is entirely possible that Trump will drive more card-carrying Democrats to vote for Clinton than would have been the case if a Rubio, Bush, or even Cruz had been the nominee (this is assuming a repeat of the unfair treatment of Sanders, and the DNC leaks).

You're probably right on the last bit but you're underestimating the depth of hatred people have for Hillary. Dems have pretty much shot their wad on the hatred front. They've pulled everything they can from it because they've been running it full blast for more than ten years. You're not going to see record turnouts from the left, you're going to see lower than average due to fatigue.

The Reps, now they've got a good snoot full of mad this go around. Half of it for their own party even. They'll show up to the polls.

Me, I'm mostly hoping that both Stein and Johnson get 5+% for their parties and we get to have a non-binary election in four years.

If I was American, i'd be considering voting for Trump, just so 'H' gets one more vote against her, then go for an independent in the next election.

I did that in our Canadian last election: voted strategically to get rid of the Harper asshats, and a will probably go back to voting green again.

                Harper was the Canadian Hillary.

I completely agree. What's more, it's not just the GOP that hate her, she's unpopular with independents and about half of her own party think she should be brought up on charges.

It's astonishing to me that people assume she's going to win when she's probably the weakest candidate ever to be nominated by a major candidate. The only reason she's still in the race at all is that Trump managed to win the GOP nomination with billions of dollars in free campaign ads.

He did do that. However, the DNC basically put forward 2 people. Then late in the game had to add in a 3rd one because he was popular.

That is the weakest showing of the DNC in years. She was basically appointed at this time last year by the DNC and media. The rest was just show.

The RNC however had nearly 17 people to chose from. It was frankly the most interesting primary in a long time.
