A pilot program was scheduled to start last week. But after no officers volunteered, Commissioner William Evans ordered 100 officers to wear the cameras. That prompted the Boston Police Patrolmen's Association to ask a judge to issue an injunction to halt the program until a new agreement can be negotiated.

Union President Patrick Rose testified Tuesday that the city violated its agreement with the union when Evans assigned officers to what was supposed to be an all-volunteer program. Rose acknowledged that he told members not to volunteer for the program before the union had reached an agreement with the city.

[...] Evans said he wants the program to begin next week and believes it's within his authority as police commissioner to order officers to wear the cameras.

No word on whether or not the Commissioner volunteered to wear a camera.

Of course this is much easier said than done. 2100 police officers cannot be replaced overnight, plus there is a union contract involved which probably bars this kind of action. I am not saying that the union is right to block this pilot, but they do have the upper hand in this case.

oh noo! no 2100 "officers" spying on, harassing, beating, stealing from and killing people. what will we do? Who will respond after crime has been committed to write up what happened and not do anything just/fair about it? Who will falsely accuse citizens of crimes in order to steal from them? Who will enforce unconstitutional laws so they can get paid for putting nonviolent people in cages with killers and rapists so those "convicts" can be released upon society after ten years of fending for their life? How will we even drive down the road without some fascist pig pulling us over by force of gun to ask us for our papers and where we are going and then proceed to make sure we jumped through every hoop some fat thief at the dmv could think of.

    To the police:
If you want the support of the public all you have to do is stop being a revenuer and start refusing to enforce unconstitutional law. I know the law is the people's responsibility but "we" aren't going to fix it for shit, so the choice falls down on you. If you just focused on actual criminals(a criminal is someone who violates someone else's rights. since we don't seem to know anymore) you would find that after a while, people of all colors and social status would support you.

Why would you think they need replacing? Are you unhapy with the level of parking and traffic tickets you receive? Or, do you believe that police exist to keep you safe? Oh ho ho, do you have some things to learn. [wikipedia.org]

The only person responsible for your own safety is yourself. That Boston makes it illegal for you to do this effectively is something residents should consider closely. (Then again, without the 2100 enforcers, the presence of many illegal laws may simply become moot.)
