They found that, when responding to a virus, the mice needed glucose to protect their brain cells from being damaged by inflammation. Without glucose, one specific anti-viral response killed cells in their brains. But when mice were in bacterial defence mode, they benefitted from a lack of sugar.

Does that mean the Atkins followers have a higher risk of brain damage from flu? Or there's still enough glucose around?

    Every thing is sugar!

Your body does not burn fat or protein or ..., it works on sugar. Yes proteins are needed to build things and calecum for bones and teeth.

Sugar is the energy source that is oxidize. giving energy and CO2.

    Sugar is just stored sunlight!

There are catabolic processes that consume fat and protein.

In ketosis, fatty acids (from the breakdown of fats) are turned into ketones, which can supply energy, sometimes, but not necessarily, involving glucose.

Protein can be broken down into amino acids, some of which can be turned into glucose.

Yup like it said. It is all sugar. Break proteins done to sugar. Break down fats, stored tripled sugars. Why fats are 9 cal/gram. Where sugar and proteins are 3.

Have to do that math all the time to get insulin right. And no you not get free sugars. That is the lie on nut rial packaging. A carb is a carb is a carb. Unless your gut is bacteria and virus free... It is in your blood stream.

Table sugar and alcohol can and do cross to your blood stream even in your mouth.

Amino acids are not sugar and fats are also not sugar. They also do not break down into sugar.

Try taking a look at their chemical structures. I'd link to Wikipedia, but you probably wouldn't take the time to read.

Glucogenic does not mean it is a sugar but merely thay a sugar can be generated from it in a catabolic state. This is why carb counting is recommended over calorie counting. If dosing insulin, you will enter an anabolic rather than catabolic state. Dosing a basal insulin should keep you out of ketosis.

LCHF:: i cook up about 2500 calories a day for being active 6'4" 190lbs and 60% of the calories come from fat. not sugars. not proteiney-sugar, fat. it makes the body run on fat-in-the-blood instead of sugar-in-the-blood. fat has 9 cals per gram, prot/carbs about 4. its called an advantaged dietary condition where you have constant energy, are never fatigued and are not hungry even if you're fasting 14 hours a day.

i eat 10..15g of marmalade a day to feed my gut. no rice, no noodles, no bread, no starch. no sugary things. i've stopped cravings carbs and sugars. beer etc no longer look like fuel. i can drink several before i feel the sugars mess with my blood-chemistry. anyway, green leafy vegs don't count as fiber/carb has at best 2ish cals per gram. i eat lots more of those now than before i dropped sugars and starches. i also drink, because i want to drink it now, a lot more water consciously. getting the energy from fat needs water it seems.

all that to say, mucho fat in the diet has been healthening and bettering me for many years and if there had been a infection or virus or something over the years, my brain would have been fed so well, it would have switched to eating different to fight it. as is, scratches and scrapes gotten from hunting berries for ex. heal about the same for me than they did/do for my oldest.

i'm just rambling to say "read up on the f* dietary advantages of running on ketones vs sugars sheeple." it just works better. also... pockets of dental bacteria which i used to house before getting of the sugar treadmill are no longer a dental issue for me.

as for viral load?? heck if i know. with sugars in the blood i had herpes blisters every few years. i've not seen them or the sniffles since living high on fat!

(try a mug of coffee with 3/4" cream for/before a breakfast with 2 eggs, 2 butter, 2 cheese and no toast. that will have you humming on fat for 2..4hrs and will stop seeming weird before long.)

and op... fu and your mr rogers edu.
