The intense investigation into the weekend bomb blasts in New York and New Jersey is leading authorities to signs of a possible terror cell in those two states, law enforcement officials told CNN Monday. The ongoing investigation, which includes two bombs in New York City and devices in two cities in New Jersey, has given authorities leads on specific people who are urgently being sought.

Also on Monday morning, a federal law enforcement official said BBs and ball bearings were among the pieces of metal that appeared to be packed into both pressure cooker bombs in New York. One of those devices exploded on 23rd Street, but the fact that it was partly under a metal trash container may have diminished the force of the blast.

The latest developments came just hours after a backpack containing multiple bombs was found Sunday night near an Elizabeth, New Jersey, train station, according to the FBI and the city's mayor. [...] The [New York City] blast occurred on the same day an explosion went off near a Marine Corps charity run in New Jersey and a man stabbed nine people at a Minnesota mall. Authorities are investigating all three incidents as possible terror acts.

Update: NYT: Police Hunt for Ahmad Khan Rahami in Connection With Manhattan Bombing

Update 2: The suspect has been captured alive, despite getting into a shootout with police.

[Ed's Note: Whereas in some parts of the world, BB is an abbreviation for ball bearing, in the US in particular it refers simply to a round pellet fired from a compressed air weapon.]

From the NYT article [nytimes.com] about the suspect, Ahmad Khan Rahami, being sought in connection with all four bomb incidents in the NY/NJ area:

Mr. Bollwage [Mayor of Elizabeth, NJ], speaking at a news conference on Monday morning, described how the Rahami family had issues with the city in the past, mainly surrounding the operation of their family restaurant, First American Fried Chicken.

Mr. Rahami’s father, Muhammad, opened the restaurant about a decade ago and employed his sons, the mayor said.

It was open 24 hours a day, but neighbors complained about rowdy crowds that would gather at the place, often after midnight.

Dean McDermott, who lives near the restaurant in Elizabeth, said he found patrons loitering in his yard and urinating in his driveway.

    ...

“The City Council voted to shut it down at 10 p.m.,” [Bollwage] said. “They kept getting complaints from neighbors, it was a distress to people in the neighborhood.”

The Rahamis did not comply, according to neighbors.

On one occasion when the police came to force the restaurant to close, one of Mr. Rahami’s older brothers got in a fight with a police officer and was arrested. Before the case could be resolved, Mr. McDermott said, the son fled to his home country, Afghanistan.

The mayor confirmed that the Rahami family sued the mayor, the City Council, some 20 police officers, claiming that he had been discriminated against because of his race and ethnicity.

“It was neighbor complaints, it had nothing to do with his ethnicity or religion,” the mayor said. “It had to do with noise and people congregating on the streets.”

I wonder if this guy was just so fed up with heavy-handed gub'mint regulation, that he went to the ammo box. Which would make him a true patriot, no?

Donald Trump would make sure he could sell his fried chicken whenever he wanted. Because that's how we're going to make America great again!

        Just to clarify:

Again, from the NYT Article about Rahami [nytimes.com]:

The police and federal agents are searching for a 28-year-old man, described as a naturalized citizen of Afghan descent, Ahmad Khan Rahami, in connection with the bombing in Manhattan on Saturday night, sending an unprecedented cellphone alert to millions of residents. [emphasis added]

Trump has boatloads of Subchapter-S corporations himself, in fact Mark Cuban speculated that that might be a reason he doesn't want to release his tax returns.

It would be entirely consistent with his behavior that he would give himself a huge tax break.

The guys who moved in the brand new family-size condos next to the really old trans bar on the four-lane Irving Park (Chicago) also only complained about the noise and people congregating. They lobbied hard at all levels to get the place closed, because of the noise, sir, we're not bigots intolerant of those weird men... Personally, I'm sadly so deaf and blind I didn't notice the place for years, despite living two blocks away.

To be fair they may have really only been complaining about the noise and crowds and not know or cared that it was a trans bar. It wouldn't surprise me if these are the same type of people who go move out into the country and then discover that farms smell and then bitch to the authorities about smells of animals and manure as well as the noise of tractors and combines running all night during harvest and planting seasons. These are also the same type of people who will move next to a racetrack and also bitch about the noise and smells there. In all of these cases they didn't do their due diligence to find out what was there before and then find out that there is something that annoys them so they try to close it down. My wife is sort of one of those people and her first time up at our lake property in the evening she head someone shooting way off in the distance and wanted to know if we should call the police. I told her no because that is just what people out in the north woods do, they waste ammo on cans, trees, other trash and it is their property so let them.
