It *wasn't* graceless. It was just using an axe rather than a knife. Originally the thing was you use the tools you've got available, and then it developed its own aesthetic. If it hadn't, it would never have been applied to computer code.
Javascript is what you use to allow unknown third parties to run software you have no idea about on your computer.
