Fatal crashes in the first half of 2016 jumped by more than 1,500 when compared to last year, marking the largest spike in 50 years.

From January to June, 17,775 people died in traffic-related incidents, increasing by 10.4 percent from the same period in 2015, a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found. While traffic deaths remain significantly lower than pre-2006 numbers, many aren't satisfied and say there's more to be done to ensure safety on the nation's streets. As the United States continues to lag behind other industrialized nations in traffic safety numbers, some are looking to autonomous, or self-driving, vehicles as an answer to accidental fatalities caused by human error in motor vehicle crashes.

By far #1 for percent of population in prison. IIRC by 10 X.

President Trump will fix that. He will make sure all undesirables are in prison. He will increase the amount to 20 X!

No, we're pretty much tied for percent of our population in prison with North Korea.

And for some reason a few tiny island nations also match the US. Which is weird. I never quite understood why. But when it comes to nations that aren't microscopic or defined by being a continual humanitarian crisis, the US is only 1.4X the next most prison-loving. Russia. Not 10X.

The high percent of US population in prison is not a mystery.

      For Profit Prisons.

      Executive bonuses, shareholder value, etc.

A school system that embraces 'no child allowed to excel to their potential -- in order to not leave anyone behind'. Thus consistently turns out a percent of 'graduates' who are unemployable, likely to turn to crime, and thus reduce vacant prison cells which increases profit, executive bonuses, and shareholder value.
