"I couldn't find a single person at the State of Marijuana Conference '16 on the Queen Mary this week willing to predict anything other than success for Proposition 64, the measure that could legalize cannabis in California for adult recreational use.

Polls continue to show that almost two-thirds of California's likely voters support passage, though things could tighten up closer to election day.

No question, a pungent wind is blowing across America. Already, adult use of marijuana is legal in Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Alaska.

In November, voters in eight other states will be making choices about legalizing recreational and medical marijuana. Like California, Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts and Nevada could approve the use of recreational pot. Florida, Arkansas and North Dakota voters will consider legalizing medical marijuana (already the standard in 25 states, plus the District of Columbia).

Montana voters will consider easing restrictions on the state's medical marijuana law.

In California, communities up and down the state are scrambling. City councils and boards of supervisors are passing ordinances, moratoriums and bans. Some are courting industry, getting ready to capitalize on what has been described as a coming "green rush." Others are sticking their heads in the sand."

I tend to have the same pessimistic attitude. It seems like everybody's out to get me some days.

When I use cannabis on a weekly basis, it's like other people change instead of me. People for whom SSRI antidepressants are effective report something similar.

Of course, I don't recommend going out while high. That's time to make some popcorn and put on Carl Sagan's Cosmos. For a few days afterwards, though, things are better. It also has a similar effect on my body weight and savings account. Magically, I just tend to maintain my ideal body weight and my saving account keeps increasing. Exercising makes me feel good rather than being a chore.

But it's not magic. To look at it another way, when your thinker is out of whack, you're not correctly perceiving reality. Cannabis may not be for everyone, but for some people at least, when SSRIs are ineffective, it seems that it can put the thinker back in whack.

(Disclaimer and rant: when an idiot decides to turn into a deadite because they've found… whatever it is that makes them think you're a minion of Satan from the burning hells, there's little you can do except run. The legal system tends to look poorly on using chainsaws and boomsticks against real life deadites. Well, you can also taunt them by playing the role and running arguments you know are factually incorrect to support OMG gun control and what-have-you. Not like you're going to convince an asshole like that that the Libertarian Party keychain you have isn't a deception. (Then there are the radfems—good grief, sometimes they are out to get you!) BUT, that's just what I deal with. You may be dealing with something different. Cannabis helps one to realize that the person with the problem is the idiot flipping out. You're not the one with the problem.)

I have found that if I increase my take of marijuana for more than once per week, I work like a drone in my office. If a tough problem comes, it's as if I know the answer but don't know where to start. Otherwise I have found no ill effect of ganja and it is just a shame on humanity that such a great thing has been banned.
