German firearms manufacturer Armatix LLC is planning to release its second smart gun in the U.S. next year after sales of its first model -- the .22 caliber iP1 -- were quashed by pressure from some gun owners and gun rights advocates who saw it as a threat to Second Amendment freedoms.

Unlike the iP1, which used RFID technology, the new iP9 9mm semi-automatic pistol will have a fingerprint reader. The iP9 will be available in mid-2017, according to Wolfgang Tweraser, CEO and president of Amratix LLC.

How long before the smart guns go all WOPR?

Are you so sure about that?

Google that, and you will know.

The Swedes have a word for discerning the intent of an AC: "ungooglebar". Ungoogleable. Since the AC in question had already shot off fingers, I assumed the worst. The Swedes have another word for accidental sex with and AC, it is called "ammosexual assange". I have no idea how it translates.

By the way, do you know that hunting is very popular in Sweden, and a large number of people [wikipedia.org] there own firearms? Sweden holds the 9th place in the world by gun ownership.

Yes, I was vaguely aware. I also know that Swedes are not gun crazy 2nd amendment worshiping death eaters like Americans are. I don't think that Swedes, being the eminently reasonable people they are (not like Norwegians at all! ), would have any use for a feature on a smart gun that would allow one to shoot off one's own hand. Or anyone else's hand, for that matter. Only in America.

Yes! Look at me! Am I not a human? (some people doubt that, but no bot could do what I do!) If you shoot my hand off, do I not bleed? No, seriously, the American resistance to "smart guns" is totally irrational, and deserves to be ridiculed to the full extent possible. Dumb gun owners prefer dumb guns, so they can do dumb things, like shooting off hands, or over throwing a perfectly good government just because Trump does not win. Yes, Morans! (proper spelling, for those of you who still care: morons, from the greek: "moros", stupid.)

And besides, with dumb guns, there is no record of what you were doing in the bedroom with your "sweetness".

Right. Rifles and shot guns. For hunting. Not hand guns and automatics magazine fed military rifles. They also don't have concealed or open carry. What is so hard to understand about this?

Sweden also still has a king. The U.S. was founded to be different from the old country, not to emulate them.

At last! It's about time somebody stepped up to admit that such an experiment failed. Miserably.
