German firearms manufacturer Armatix LLC is planning to release its second smart gun in the U.S. next year after sales of its first model -- the .22 caliber iP1 -- were quashed by pressure from some gun owners and gun rights advocates who saw it as a threat to Second Amendment freedoms.

Unlike the iP1, which used RFID technology, the new iP9 9mm semi-automatic pistol will have a fingerprint reader. The iP9 will be available in mid-2017, according to Wolfgang Tweraser, CEO and president of Amratix LLC.

How long before the smart guns go all WOPR?

Oh, the gun debate... yawn. The anti-gun side laments the occurance of gun violence, while the pro-gun side celebrates the means to protect one's self, home, and family. And then we have so-called smart guns which don't sound very smart to anyone on either side. When will it all end?

Have no fear, for I have considered the matter, and found a most reasonable solution which I'm sure everyone will embrace: guns that can only be fired by women

fact: violent criminals are much more commonly male than female. Taking guns out of the hands of men largely accomplishes the stated goal of taking guns out of the hands of criminals/terrorists without exacerbating the "if guns are outlawed only outlaws have guns" problem

fact: real men don't need weapons for self defense because we have big muscles, tough leather-like skin, and sharp mustaches. Women don't have these things and may choose to rely on a sidearm to protect themselves.

fact: gun manufacturers could make larger profits and create thousands of jobs if they were to begin developing more fashionable guns instead of the same old boring designs preferred by men

designing the mechanism by which a gun determines the sex of a would-be shooter is left as an exercise for the reader

How dare you say men are better than womyn at anything, you sexist pig! We can be just as good at committing violent crimes as men. We are just prevented from being more violent by the male patriarchy!

Down with men! Up with more violence!
