A photo series on CNET shows the tech advances that have occurred since the Cubs last won the World Series:

The Chicago Cubs are back in the World Series for the first time since 1945. They haven't won it since 1908.

Man managed to conquer the skies before the Cubs could conquer another World Series. On January 1, 1914, the first scheduled commercial airline flight soared across Florida, from St. Petersburg to Tampa. As the Cubs remain grounded in their World Series hopes over the next century, flight developed to the point where Uber just released its plans for on-demand urban air transportation.

The Cubs in the World Series--A sure sign of the Apocalypse?

How many companies are as old?

We've had similar articles about the Red Sox lifetime of failures, it's an easy article to do.

There is one technical change I wish would be undone. Relief pitchers. This lets the starting pitcher throw more intentional balls, which delays the game, and then the fresh thrower goes in, and the last-game score increases appear less frequently now. If a game can't be played in three hours something is wrong.

Ty Cobb, long retired, was giving an interview in the press box at a ballgame. The radio guy asked him, "Ty, if you were playing today, what do you think you'd hit in terms of batting average?"

Cobb paused. "Oh, I dunno, .290. Maybe .300".

The radio guy was taken aback since he knew of Cobb's reputation for arrogance. But, maybe old age had mellowed him. "That's because of relief pitching, night baseball, infield and outfield shifts, and new pitches like the slider, right, Ty?"

Cobb: "No, it's because I'm seventy."

It's been a wonderful series so far. My only gripe with it, and I do have sympathy for broadcasters needing to have something to say, but the stupider than usual stats about "the last time XXX happened at Wrigley Field during a World Series". Of course the last time was a long fricken time ago, because it has been a long fricken time since they were in the Series! They had to do it for the home run. For the stolen base. Last night it was Kris Bryant is the youngest person to hit homers in back-to-back games in a Cubs World Series since Mickey Mantle."
