Dani Mathers Charged Over "Body-Shaming" Snapchat Post

Los Angeles police have charged Playboy model Dani Mathers over a "body-shaming" image she took of an older woman in a gym locker room. The picture of the naked 70-year-old was taken in LA Fitness in July without her consent and posted on social media. She uploaded the photo to Snapchat alongside one of herself and the caption: "If I can't unsee this then you can't either". Ms Mathers faces a charge of invasion of privacy. She could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 (£800) fine if convicted.

Ms Mathers, 29, apologised soon after uploading the image, saying she thought her Snapchat post had been a private conversation and acknowledging that "body-shaming" is wrong. However, her lawyer, Thomas Mesereau, is quoted in the Los Angeles Times as saying his client did nothing illegal, neither invading anyone's privacy nor violating any laws. Announcing the decision to charge the model, Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer took aim at "body-shaming", calling it "humiliating, with often painful, long-term consequences".

    Then you go to a shitty gym. You do go to a gym, right? As opposed to talking out of your ass?

    And, for example, when you're a heart patient (or 70 years old) the last thing you want to do is exercise by walking down streets, etc. where if you collapse you may have a passerby call for help sometime in the next hour. Much nicer to be in a place where you can call for help (or be seen and immediately responded to) and expect someone trained in first aid and CPR, with an AED readily available who will immediately call the paramedics.

    Then again, maybe I go to an exceptional gym where just about everyone is committed to exercising, and socializing/cell phones while on machines is strongly discouraged, and using a phone in the locker rooms is grounds for immediate ejection and revocation of membership. (And not much if any ogling because we're all there to work out.)

    Oh, and Dani Mathers should be charged criminally as a sex offender and be liable for a whopping civil judgment.
