General Motors Co is ramping up production of Chevrolet Bolt electric cars at a factory north of Detroit and is on track to start delivering vehicles as promised by the end of the year, company officials said on Friday.

Barring a last-minute stumble, GM will be first to offer an electric car with more than 200 miles of driving range at a starting price of less than $40,000 before tax credits. Silicon Valley electric car maker Tesla has said its entry in this new market segment, the Model 3, will launch next year.

I dunno, that form factor works pretty well for me. We have a Honda Fit now, which is a great car because it's very versatile and easy to park on the street in Brooklyn, which has alternate side parking (ie., you have to move your car once a week for street cleaning to prevent people from hogging parking spots semi-permanently). If it was an EV with 200mi range it would be the perfect car for us.

Still I would prefer a Tesla Model 3 to a Bolt because I believe Elon Musk gets EVs, does not have to divide his focus with ICEs, and also really understands the future of travel in the 21st century. GM and the rest of the dinosaurs don't really get it, and won't until it's too late.

I don't disagree with the form factor being OK, just the appearance. I'm not normally one to pay much attention to aesthetic design, but as someone on one of the Tesla forums remarked the Bolt looks like it got beat with the UGLY stick. But I guess that's a personal thing.

Hello Fit Brother... We bought a Fit after a couple months after they came out in the US, and it's still going (knock on wood) with 215k miles. We liked our Fit form factor so much we traded in our Jeep Compass and leased a HRV last year. The HRV is built on the Fit frame and shares a lot of similarities.
