Xubuntu is a light-ish spin of Ubuntu Linux. It uses the Xfce desktop environment and is suitable for older machines which would bog down with a heavier DE like Unity or GNOME or KDE.

Curmudgeonly software reviewer Dedoimedo reports:

Giving a high score to Xubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak may look as if it's getting credit only because all other Ubuntu releases this year were horrible, but it is not so. If we exclude the hardware-specific issues with the Realtek drivers--which is a big issue across the entire distro world--and the package manager choice, there weren't any huge, cardinal problems this time. It would seem that Xubuntu is recovering gently. Perhaps it is still too early to tell, but Yak is much, much better than [Xubuntu 16.04 Xenial] Xerus. And it deserves 8/10.

I actually like the concept behind Plasma 5, and as of 5.8 it's really polished and usable. The problem, though, is 1) there aren't any good icon themes and very few Plasma themes; it's all this ugly, antifunctional, postmodern "flat" horseshit, and 2) it's nowhere near as configurable as KDE4 was by the end, which is a real issue.

Once they get things like a Global Menu back in, an app menu you can change the size of (seriously, KDE guys, what the actual fuck...), and some icon themes that don't look like someone's Samsung Note 7 took a massive diarrhea shit all over the filesystem, they'll be in a good place.

Personally, I want to see the Elementary icon theme ported to Plasma 5. Faenza, too. And the Mint-X-Colors sets.

If you haven't figured out how to do ALL of those you must have spent all of 12 minutes running KDE/Plasma.
There are three alternative menuing systems switchable in real time and all are very configurable.

There are more icon themes than you ca shake a stick at, 1175 Icon Themes on kde.org. At least three versions of Elementary and several Faenza versions as well. If you couldn't find them you weren't trying.
