On 27 March 1943, a cell of the Dutch resistance committed an attack on the municipal register of Amsterdam. The German occupier had found this register to be extremely convenient: it contained the details of 70.000 Jews in Amsterdam. Also, it proved useful as a means of cross-checking information on identity cards.

Gerrit van der Veen, Willem Arondéus, Johan Brouwer, Rudi Bloemgarten and a number of others had thoroughly prepared the assault and decided there could be no casualties. They entered the building disguised as policemen. Guards were overpowered, given a sedative and taken out the back to be parked in the Artis zoo for safekeeping. The filing cabinets containing public records were turned upside down. After soaking the files in benzene, the group set the largest possible fire.

That night, the fire department played a crucial part. A few resistance sympathizers among the firefighters had been notified of the attack. When the alarm sounded they intentionally delayed the deployment of trucks in order to give the fire time to do maximum damage. Water was used extra generously during and after the extinguishing, in order to add water damage to the havoc of the flames.

In the end, the attack turned out less successful than planned. Due to the tight stacking of the identity cards, a lot of information was saved. Approximately 15 percent of the documents was destroyed by the fire, a few thousand were rendered illegible by the water and of course the overall disarray was enormous.

There are modern lessons to be had from the "big data" collection in states that turned authoritarian during Word War II.

    "left-wing" (progressives?) being racist

"die whitey die" see the anti-trump riot spray paint graffiti. Its kinda hard to re-interpret. Of course the SJWs on college campuses are even more explicit about their hatreds. Not to mention the whole reconquista thing.

.... So where are the non-racist?...... Where are the *normals*?.....

No longer active in American politics. Kinda like Germany in the 30s, you get commies or nationalists. Well, there's like my mom, but she's not politically active nor are her interests represented.

left wing used to be pro-people

Not that way since Bill Clinton took over the DNC back in the 90s and they've been strong pro-corporate since then, pro establishment, pro globalism, screw the citizens and hate the white people.

right wing have degenerated into nationalists

Well, its more complicated than that. The neocons are politically dead, neutered everyone hates them although they are money-magnets. Jeb! The alt right modern nationalist types are basically libertarianism plus human biological differences. Sort of race conscious libertarians. Sort of here's the famous graphs of race vs IQ plus this libertarianism thing is nifty as long as all participants are 100 and above (or the more pessimistic say 120 and above). Wake me when Somalia for example becomes a successful libertarian community, or Detroit for that matter. So you want to run a country at level 100 on an arbitrary scale, anybodies free to play along who CAN play along, just realize its gonna be demographically, um, interesting.

left wing are not really being represented anymore most likely because of apathetic crowd.

Yes the most recent soon to be ex prez ran on the partial slogan of "change" not mentioning the full slogan was "change nothing" and that's kinda a downer. He was probably the biggest disappointment ever elected, because he was going to walk on water and so forth and ended up being kind of a Carter like figure with a tan, to put it nicely. Carter is an excellent analogy, smart as hell, nice guy, well intentioned, utterly incompetent. Sort of the professor from Gilligans Island.

Anyway, you may leave politics alone, but as sure as hell, eventually, politics will not leave you alone.

Amusingly we came to complete agreement on the main topic at the very end of that discussion. That is entirely the point.

The left wing had their candidate, actually, and he's been having a field day the last week. That candidate, of course, was Bernie Sanders and his crew, who is effectively presenting the Democrats with a message of "Reform yourselves, or we walk and you drift off into irrelevancy".

Of course, the problem with the 2016 presidential race is that both major parties and their nominees richly deserved to lose.

    "die whitey die"

Speaking German doesn't automatically make one a racist. Btw, shouldn't that be "der whitey"?
