from the not-a-different-president dept.

I've come across an article on The Atlantic that analyses Trump's personality:

Many questions have arisen about Trump during this campaign season—about his platform, his knowledge of issues, his inflammatory language, his level of comfort with political violence. This article touches on some of that. But its central aim is to create a psychological portrait of the man. Who is he, really? How does his mind work? How might he go about making decisions in office, were he to become president? And what does all that suggest about the sort of president he'd be?

It's a long, but very interesting read.

Here's a list of sentences the article itself highlights:

Combined with a gift for humor, anger lies at the heart of Trump's charisma.

Trump appeals to an ancient fear of contagion, which analogizes out-groups to parasites and poisons.

Narcissism in presidents is a double-edged sword. It is associated with historians' ratings of "greatness"—but also with impeachment resolutions.

Andrew Jackson displayed many of the same psychological qualities that we see in Trump.

Trump has never forgotten the lesson from his father: The world is a dangerous place. You have to be ready to fight.

And the final paragraph summarizes:

Who, really, is Donald Trump? What's behind the actor's mask? I can discern little more than narcissistic motivations and a complementary personal narrative about winning at any cost. It is as if Trump has invested so much of himself in developing and refining his socially dominant role that he has nothing left over to create a meaningful story for his life, or for the nation. It is always Donald Trump playing Donald Trump, fighting to win, but never knowing why.

Thanks for reminding us that not all the hate-spewing bigots voted for Trump. At least, I hope you had enough integrity not to vote for Clinton. And yes, your tears are quite delicious.

For that matter, it's the elites and corporations, but you can't see it that way. It's the liberuls, always the liberuls that are the problem.

Who again is beating over and over that racism drum you claim is such a problem that it has divided the US in half? Why you are!

And yes, your tears are delicious. Too bad (?) that you won't learn from experience.

The saying comes from MMOs (Massively Multiplayer Online) computer games with player-versus-player conflict. Basically, some incompetent dies in a game battle and then complains bitterly on a public forum about their humiliation. It's to remind the whiners that the people who supposedly instigated this little drama not only don't take it seriously, but find it quite amusing. It is a reward for skullduggery well done.

edIII could have come up with all sorts of serious and even effective ways to express his displeasure. The powerless whine however is just a source of amusement. Just like some whiner complaining that say, mean people blew up his toy computer spaceship, edIII's whine is a tempest in a tea pot. Sure, perhaps Trump is a milepost towards the end of US democracy just like the Gracchi brothers' populism [wikipedia.org] was a milepost in the end of the ancient Roman Republic. But it is opportunity as well as threat. Perhaps some noobs (greatly inexperienced people) need to l2p (learn to play), eh?

ha ha, khallow borrows some obscure terminology from a niche domain and tries to use it to "communicate" with a broader audience, and wonders why he's not getting through. He thinks he's having fun watching the opposition flail, when the reality is just that he's simply a racist bigot whose favored candidate won an election because people are desperate for change and the democrats stayed home. Racism and bigotry in this day and age are simply signs of a deprived background, defective education, or lack of education, or mental illness, or lack of mental acuity, or psychopathic tendencies. We leave it up to the reader to guess which of these categories the parent falls into...

Or perhaps he thinks the 'others' (sjws, brown people, white traitors) are not quite human in his twisted mind. Who knows?

Even worse, the dude takes pride in his ancestry and background as justification to discriminate against or hurt other groups of humans, when the reality is that it was simply chance that he was born as who he was, and he had no control over it. Unfortunately for him, he lacks the self-awareness (dare I say intelligence?) to even realize this! Maybe he thinks he's God's gift to humanity, part of the Godly plan to Make America White Again? further, i am becoming SO anti-PC, i have been doing some soul-searching on just WHY i *have to* be -like- totally loving and tolerant about EVERY-FUCKING-THING...
for example: what do i care if someone hates broccoli ? (or loves broccoli, for that matter)
i MAY (or may not) think everyone should love broccoli because it is 'good for you', an excellent source of various nutrients, etc, but is that enough that i DEMAND AND INSIST EVERYONE MUST love broccoli ? ? ?
doesn't that sound weird and autocratic ?
you can hate broccoli all you want, and as long as you are not breaking any laws, who cares ? ? ?
assuming you arent killing chefs who cook/serve broccoli, assuming you arent burning or poisoning fields of broccoli, assuming you dont theaten or attack people eating broccoli, who the fuck cares you hate (OR love) broccoli, and just what the fuck is it ANYONE elses bidness if you do ? ? ?
now, here is the tricky part: we SHOULD be able to replace 'broccoli' with just about anything, and the same principle adheres...
who cares i hate white and/or black and/or yellow and/or brown and/or red and/or gay and/or straights, and/or rethugs and/or dem'rats or whatever cohort of people ? ? ? so what ? ? ? as long as i am not doing illegal shit to act on that hate, so what ? ? ?
unless/until someone proves to me that the hate-rays emenating from my brain have real physical effects, i simply say, so what i hate _______ ? ? ? so what ? ? ?
i might add, if you are controlling who i hate, you are also contolling who i love...
(by the way, when i was a kid, i HATED broccoli, now i love it...)

Again, the fucking dipshit speaks. It's not racism dividing us, but class-ism, and it's not even that, but our inability to agree on what form of class-ism is doing it. You stupid fucking dickhead. It won't be a race war, but a class war, and it will be a war to finally determine that we will end the conditions of this class-ism once and for all.

Yes, I don't think you'll learn from experience either. In the next 4 years they're going to plow into you with barely a reach around, and somehow, you'll keep supporting them and believing them that the person fucking you are still the liberuls.

What's too bad is that you can't open your eyes, but that is because you have a lump of coal in your chest and don't give a fuck about anybody but yourself, and what you can grab and make yours.

I'm not crying tears, I'm calmly explaining what is to come. It's your arrogance and hubris to not see the seething anger, determination, and war drums instead. Life is soon to be endless protests marked by ever increasing violence. There's something like 500 planned for tomorrow alone, with daily phone drives and recruitment. You thought Trump running motivated us? No. Trump winning motivated us.

At the end, amidst the destruction of our broken society that you so fucking lament in it's passing, I'll ask you again if the tears were worth it. Although, I know for you that you would delight in the pain of others unable to worry about your trip in a black basket to Hell.

I won't delight in your inevitable tears, but simply lament that so many were so ignorant, and so very cruel to the world. I will lament nothing more than the simple fact it was but a choice. You have a choice, but you fail to fill your life with empathy or compassion. Why you cannot pull your head out your ass and see what is really happening is beyond me.

Just like everybody thought Trump couldn't be elected, and he was, you all think the "other side" is just going to cry tears and call it a day. Oh no, there is another stage after the mourning.

Yes that's why poor rural unemployed or struggling Americans voted for the billionaire. Because of class-ism.

Because they were lied to about getting better jobs back. They don't know enough about the world's condition to realize they are being 100% conned.

Yes. We already saw denial on Wed. morning. And grief. This is the anger stage. This is as bad as it gets. Then follows depression. The final stage is ACCEPTANCE.

Yes for all the anger people will still have to accept the fact that Trump is the new president. That won't change a bit of their motivation to make sure this shit doesn't happen again. I get how he rode the wave of anger against corruption, but I don't get how seemingly intelligent people can't see how his policies are detrimental in the long term for not just the US but the entire Earth. Since you don't understand, and utterly believe otherwise, there is no amount of explaining I can do. We all hope he'll pull through on his promises to end corruption and create jobs, but it will 100% come at the expense of our environment and likely our economy.

The silver lining? We hope that Trump will be superseded by the corrupt politicians and be unable to actually repeal environmental protections.

TL:DR You Trump supporters are short sighted greedy bastards, with a smattering of decency hoping for less corruption. You will be crying salty salty tears if you can pull it together enough to admit you were wrong as this madness unfolds (unless we're all VERY VERY lucky).

So one candidate tells them he will get their jobs back, and the other says good we didn't want them anyways. Almost everyone I talk to knows that Trump will be unable to fix the issue. But when you live in a town that had one factory, and it got shipped to mexico, and now nobody is employed, you sure as hell will not be voting for the woman who didn't show any signs of caring.

For those I know and associate with this was not about race, or sex, or gender, or jobs, or healthcare, or anything except burning the system of aristocrats down. Trump will bring chaos and hopefully blatant corruption. The only way for people to accept that the enemy is the elite is to be forced to recognize this. Drag them out of the cave kicking and screaming and force them to gaze upon the horror.

Maybe it won't work and everything comes crashing down. It was going to happen anyways, the only difference is which rich people get to make off with the cash.

Well I wasn't addressing the people that want to watch the system burn to the ground. Its hard to argue with that, but my personal preference was for a third party and shakeup of the our elections system. I realize it will need to get worse before politicians are forced to change it... Most Trump supporters are not the "burn it down" types, they think he will buck the system and accomplish things we NEED with a "get it done" attitude. I think it will actually be a little sad to see him become more moderate and take on a more regular presidential attitude, his normal way of doing things won't work as well for him as president. Ah well, we shall see.

Your tears continue to be delicious due in large part to your naked hypocrisy. Democracy barely won this election yet you're spinning it hard as some bad thing because the right candidate didn't win. I think you could find better things to do with your time than push some stupid narrative.

Class war. The prophecy that the have-notes will rise and unite one day. One day. They are just too stupid to unite though.

Guess what, they are united. They were divided by the liberuls (and don't use no-true-scotsman now). They are united, they just don't want the same things.

The only blind person, the only person with no clue, is you. Like a badly behaved kid who lost his taser gun to the adults, the only sad part is looking at the stalwarts of 'truth' going through all the stages of grief. Trump won because people think liberals can take a hint from a failure. I don't think so. May time prove me wrong, but right now what you should be thinking about, instead of hating on Trump voters, is what were you doing when Obama didn't close Guantanamo Bay? Where were the weepers and the trash burners when Obama was busy consolidating extra-judicial killing power to executive branch? Racist america??? Really???? The same america (and literally the same people) who voted for Obama - twice - are now racist.

Democrats got the power. Obama got all the power he needed. Hillary got power before some of were born. Bill Clinton defeated Paula Jones in state and was emboldened to fuck around with Monica and then to lie to the whole nation and guess what, no democrat voted on merit. (Some thing about elites you were saying.) And Hillary Clinton, what is the word, 'slut shamed the victim of sexual assault'. He is actually lucky, Bill, today a hundred women would have stood-up, recounting the horrors [youtube.com], like they did against Trump just before the election.

Liberals got the power and used it against the racist misogynist homophobic xenophobic cis-het white male non-college-going working population that gave rise to freedom of speech, freedom to a peaceful protest and liberalism.

The middle class rose and broke into two - and the upper part pushed the lower back into poverty to become the rich class.

The class war just happened, and you lost.
