Mazda Motor Corp will recall about 70,000 of its RX-8 sports cars from model years 2004 to 2008 in the United States because of an issue with fuel pump sealing rings that may leak and catch fire, U.S. safety regulators said on Tuesday.

I drove a manual RX-8 for 5 years in DC traffic and later in the Midwest. I would estimate every day driving to be 18 miles/gallon and pure highway driving down the side of a mountain to be around 22 miles/gallon. I ended up trading it in to buy a family car. Despite vast exposure to dozens of different rental cars, I haven't found another car more enjoyable to drive. We're due to buy a second car in the next few months. I keep telling my wife I'm getting another RX-8. I don't think she likes that idea as she yells at me, storms off, and flips the breaker for the basement leaving me alone in the dark with the all the UPS alarms wailing and LEDs blinking. Brb... gotta halt my databases.

To buy larger UPSes, and get a remote operation breaker switch installed :)

When I read comments like this, it makes me happy that I'm not married any more.
