Senator Boxer Introduces Bill to Eliminate Electoral College

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Senator-Boxer-to-Introduce-Bill-to-Eliminate-Electoral-College--401314945.html

"This is the only office in the land where you can get more votes and still lose the presidency," Boxer said in a statement. "The Electoral College is an outdated, undemocratic system that does not reflect our modern society, and it needs to change immediately. Every American should be guaranteed that their vote counts."

[...] "When all the ballots are counted, Hillary Clinton will have won the popular vote by a margin that could exceed two million votes, and she is on track to have received more votes than any other presidential candidate in history except Barack Obama," Boxer said.

Trump will be the fifth president in U.S. history to win the election despite losing the popular vote. George W. Bush won the most recent such election, in 2000.

The United States was conceived as a Union of sovereign States that formed an alliance for common defense and ceded certain limited powers to a federal government. The states do not print money or deliver mail, because those are federal responsibilities. The federal government does not issue drivers licenses, because that is a state responsibility. The people are citizens of their state first and the nation second. But when was the last time anyone seriously considered themselves to be citizens of a state? Not in America, where flag-waving patriots wave the federal flag, not their state flag. The United States was more similar to the European Union before the imperial tyrant Abraham Lincoln strengthened federal power and weakened state sovereignty. So let's eliminate all vestiges of federalism and exterminate states rights for good, starting with disbanding every state militia, because Trump's Army is the greatest and nothing trumps Trump.

I guess that depends on where you live. Around here in rural flyover country, the US flag always flies with the state flag (with literally one exception I can think of), but it isn't uncommon to see people just fly the state flag, around 5% of the time it is by itself.

Been to Texas at all? I hear Texan more than American, there are a lot of Texas flags flown without US flags and there are seriously a lot of people that want to succeed, although that might not be as strong with Trump as president compared to Obama.

Texas could flip Democratic in the future. Good luck seceding then.

Future Republicans in several states will have to win a majority of Hispanics to stay in power. Maybe they can, maybe they won't.

I don't mean to discredit your view. I just think it's something to keep a close eye on. A purple/blue instead of reliable red Texas would be confirmation that the Republican party is facing a demographic crisis.

I think it's premature to perpetuate the red/blue dichotomy. Trump beat the expression of the Establishment in both parties. That means the RNC is set for as big a shakeup as the DNC is. That is, at least, if Trump follows through on what put him into office. The news is mixed so far. He picked Bannon as Chief Strategist, and Priebus as Chief of Staff.

"So let's eliminate all vestiges of federalism and exterminate states rights for good, starting with disbanding every state militia, because Trump's Army is the greatest and nothing trumps Trump."

Is this meant to be ironic? Because I think it is even more ironic than you realize.

I am guessing that you are a liberal person who believes in gay marriage. You probably think that Trump is anti-gay marriage. Trump wants to overturn the Supreme Court's ruling guaranteeing anybody's right to marry because it was a Federal ruling, instead of leaving it up to individual states.

You also seem to think that lots of his supporters love The Government, but Trump wants to enable US citizens to arm themselves. Do you know who "preppers" and 2nd Amendment people look up to?

    George Washington.

A person who lead thousands of citizen soliders to fight and die killing thousands of "The Government's" soldiers. The 2nd Amendment and The Government are eternally at odds.
