A third pyramid structure has been discovered within the Temple of Kukulkan at Chichen Itza:

A third structure has been found within the famous Kukulkan pyramid in eastern Mexico, experts say.

The 10m (33t[sic]) tall pyramid was found within two other structures that comprise the 30m pyramid at the Mayan archaeological complex known as Chichen Itza in Yucatan state.

The discovery suggests that the pyramid was built in three phases.

The Mayan civilisation occupied Central America and had its peak around the 6th Century AD.

The recently-discovered smallest pyramid was constructed between the years 550-800, researchers say.

[...] The middle structure was discovered in the 1930s and is estimated to date back to the years 800-1000, while the largest one is believed to have been finished between 1050-1300.

Maybe 3-4 years later I went to Teotihuacan, near Mexico city. Thoughts:

    1) That pyramid was a bitch to climb, made me start thinking of getting in shape. Never mind the altitude.
    2) Mexico city is both really nice and sucks. Culture is really nice. Smog sucked. Half the museums were closed due to lack of money for maintenance, in the other half half the exhibits were closed.
    3) I got the flu the day before I left, got to my hotel and spent 2 out of my 4 days in my hotel room, only leaving to get some great tortilla soup from the bar on the top floor (El Presidente, if I remember right)
    4) Took a trip to Taxco, which is a silver town an hour out of Mexico city. Bought my girlfriend some really nice silver earrings. Got home, she didn't want to accept them. Found out from her sister it was because she'd found a new boyfriend while I was gone (we hadn't been going out long enough for me to take her on an expensive trip like that, went with a friend)

Second half of that trip was going to Puerto Vallarta, staying at El Presidente. I love Puerto Vallarta.
