The fallout of the American Presidential election of 2016 continues, and many are concerned about what the eventual consequences will be. One potential member of a Trump administration has many more worried than not. Observe:

As Donald Trump commences his ghastly slouch toward Washington, a coterie of sycophants snatches at his coattails: Newt Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani, Chris Christie—we knew this particular trio would scurry after heightened relevance and authority. Unsurprisingly, all three have slavered their way to the president-elect's transition team, and possibly into the Cabinet. Less expected, perhaps, was billionaire PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel's recent appointment to the same advisory committee. And yet, an alliance between Trump and Thiel, however appalling, seems so fitting that hindsight renders it almost preordained.

One wonders about the temperament of the President-Elect, but even more about the basket of, um, unemployed, that swarm around him seeking positions in the new administration. Peter Thiel is well know for having bankrupted Gawker over the Hulk Hogan affair, but for personal reasons.

But Thiel did not bankroll Hogan's lawsuit in a show of fraternity. He had nurtured a grudge since December 2007, when Gawker published an article entitled, "Peter Thiel is totally gay, people." Thiel condemned Gawker for publicly outing him, though the site contended that he had already disclosed his sexuality to those in his social sphere. Although Thiel referred to Gawker as "a singularly terrible bully," he did not pursue legal action. Instead, his rancor smoldered until, nine years later, he landed a belated—but fatal—blow.

What might such vindictiveness accomplish with more than millions of dollars, but the full faith and credit of the United States, if it sought to silence criticism, whistle-blowing, truth-telling and journalism? Should Soylentils be worried?

It took Aristarchus 4 tries and half a month to get this in a form somebody was willing to publish.

Submitting your own flamebait does not help bring things to the center, unless that center is ground zero.

I'm just letting you know what's up. You did seem pretty confounded about your flamebait being deleted after all.

No, you are letting SoylentNews know what was up. This is what I find unusual, and somewhat disconcerting. What, besides persistence, makes you think I was confounded? And, "flamebait"? Are you suggesting I am not sincere in submitting this as a serious topic to be discussed by my fellow Soylentils? OK, the first or second submissions were pretty bad, but that should not be an issue. There is no growsing about rejected submissions, so there should also be no public expose of them, either. Of course, Yog-Yogguth's accusation of super troll powers with dastardly intend is even more dispiriting. But this is not about me. It is about free speech. So feel free to mod me down into the basement.

Well it sure is interesting since he's in a position to know the truth of the matter (actually everybody is if they care to pay a lot of attention to the submissions page i.e. some client-side pulling and scripting). All your submissions are public whether you like it or not, they all go into the queue, it's how it works. Are you saying he shouldn't have told everybody? Why not? Would there also be anything bad about the "Top ten" lists according to SN moderation (could also be done by anyone with enough scripting) or the sharing of SN coding issues (it's all on GitHub for everyone) which also happens? The SN crew has those abilities more easily for sure but so what?

Are you afraid Peter Thiel is funding SN? I doubt it but would welcome it and I don't think anyone would know, all I can say is that he sure isn't me and I'm not gay because I'm half hetero and half ammosexual [wiktionary.org] lol :)

"OK, the first or second submissions were pretty bad, but that should not be an issue."

Wouldn't that always be a central issue? Anyway you polished enough right? 100 comments at least now.

              "...dastardly..."

              Oh you... *blush* :D

My comment is moderated troll even though I was being very sarcastic and acerbic about the obvious "war on gays that don't do/think/act/vote as they're told" which dovetails with the "war on blacks who ~similar~" and the same for everyone else (KKK is historically an offshoot of the Dems after all, no wonder, same kind of "mind", they only specialized that's all) so please don't feel too bad :)

              "Super troll powers"

              Badge get?

I know you won't be discouraged, you never are :)

"Are you suggesting I am not sincere..."

Are you? I can't actually tell (intent is always tricky), you might be but you might also not be. No one is sincere all the time. I wrote my comment thinking "hey, this guy might actually be super-intelligent and meta-chess-playing etc. rather than trolling so I should write a nice comment pointing out how he could be really clever" but I could be wrong of course. Either way it was the sort of thing I would think you would appreciate :3

"There is no growsing about rejected submissions"

I'm convinced this only applies to the submitter, everyone else is allowed to grouse as much as they like including at submissions that weren't rejected as I'm sure you've seen plenty of times.

Who modded Yog-yogguth troll? I demand to know! This is not cool, people. Countered, to be best of my rather pathetic ability.

Thanks for the explanation. One theory in Marxism, of course, is that capitalism is going to result in the continued impoverishment of the proletariat (that is "working people" for you "ammosexuals"), but there will be constant buy offs of the working class to keep them from overturning the whole apple cart. So the job of any smart revolutionary is to make the plight of the proles as bad as it can be, perhaps by having the government explicitly taken over by very wealthy businessmen. . . . You know, maybe the whole alt-right thing is a false flag operation, and they are actually alt-left, "alt" in the good German sense of "old". I, however, am not that clever. But thanks for the attempted compliment!
