A Republican trifecta in Washington next year will likely see action on a bill to remove firearm suppressors from National Firearms Act regulation after 82 years.
The Hearing Protection Act was introduced last October by U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon, R-Ariz., and currently has 78 bipartisan co-sponsors from 34 states. Since then, the HPA has been among the top 10 most-viewed bills on Congress.gov almost every week since it was introduced.

However, with a slim Republican majority in the Senate unable to override a near-certain veto from President Obama, the bill has been in doldrums.
Now, with the White House under new management next year, advocates for the measure feel signs are looking up and will likely return to the next Congress with a fresh mandate.

Why is this important? Safety has been increasing in nearly every aspect and product since the beginning of time, but allowing people to protect their hearing by adding silencers to their weapons has been a tough road for gun owners for a long while.

“Imagine for a second that we lived in a world where you had to pay a $200 tax to buy a pair of earplugs,” Knox Williams, president of the American Suppressor Association, the industry trade group for the devices, told Guns.com on Wednesday. “Now, imagine that even after paying that tax you still had to wait 8 months before you could bring your earplugs home with you. As silly as that sounds, it’s the world we live in with suppressors in the NFA.”

I think I'm just going to post this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rR9IaXH1M0 [youtube.com] in every gun control debate thread from now on. Enjoy.

Shame on you for posting nothing but a video on a text-based news site. I'm not here to watch TV.

This is not an indictment of the content of your video, because I have no idea what the content is, because I'm not watching it.

    Troll? Wherefore troll mod?

The linked video contains a great many well-made arguments and rebuttals very relevant to the US gun control debate. Obviously not everybody will agree with those arguments but guess what? There is a "disagree" mod option for just that very situation! Save your troll mods for people actually trying to cause trouble.

Because suppressors are only tangential to gun control, and as this thread has proven in spades, most of you have no fucking clue what you are talking about.

If it's offtopic, mod it offtopic.

I wasn't the one modding it, dickhead, but it's fairly fucking obvious to anyone who doesn't have their head up their ass why it was modded that way.

Don't worry. You'll eventually say something even more irrelevant and be modded to the stratosphere to indulge your ego. Stupidity abounds.

Right here troll mod, not even two minutes into your own linked video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rR9IaXH1M0&t=1m41s [youtube.com]

It's OK! I watched the video, and it completely relevant and on-topic and not trollish at all, except it does make America look rather foolish, but what do you expect from a country that looks at Brexit and says "Hold my beer!"

So, watch it! Click that link! Give the past a slip! Crack that whip! Watch it.

You could only be correct if all viewers view said video in the context of it being 100% a comedy routine and NOTHING else.

Case in point: Jim Jefferies draws a direct parallel between gun ownership and owning human slaves (in part 2 of said video).

As comedy, it's a chuckle if you can ignore 25% of the content consisting of the word "fuck". From a factual, legal, historical, and logical perspective, it's almost entirely completely fallacious.

Not quite, if you listen carefully he draws a parallel between making disingenuous excuses for gun ownership and making disingenuous excuses for slaver ownership. He's saying if you like owning guns (or owning slaves) then just come out and say so and make that your argument instead of hiding behind weak and lame justifications.

That point was indeed among his very first statements as previously posted: https://soylentnews.org/comments.pl?sid=16619&cid=430923#commentwrap [soylentnews.org]

Of course, trying to make anything serious out of that comedy routine would be quite dumb. Critical analysis of ANY of the gun-control points raised immediately reveals fatal flaws. Posting that video as a serious retort to gun ownership does indeed appear to be troll behavior.
