Soon to be upon us is Black Friday — the time of year when retailers try and outdo each other to corner extra sales. In recent years, retailers have been springing their deals earlier and earlier trying to get a jump on the other retailers. Some amazing deals can be had if you know where and when to look.

In light of that, what things are you hoping for? New computer? Mobile phone? Tablet? Game?

Alternatively, what great deals have you found (both on-line and brick-and-mortar)?

I think it would be wonderful if someone, by posting a wishlist item here, were able to find a great deal known by someone else in the community.

I have gotten a lot more good deals then than on Black Friday.

Outside of doorbusters there aren't actually many items on sale during Black Friday.

Furthermore short of AM3+ hardware, and maybe ARM Chromebooks, there isn't much hardware you can buy anymore that isn't either DRM'd or backdoored at the hardware level with signed bootloaders, firmware, or management engines taking away your security, access to your hardware etc such that you're just a willing victim of the technology rather than the owner and posessor of the technology. I am becoming more of a luddite with each passing year in order to retain my security, anonymity, and control of my data. I wonder how many others of this very small niche and lifestyle choice are doing the same.

I ended up buying one of the last MBs to have XP drivers (yeah yeah yeah- XP is a modern day Rosetta Stone for legacy software) for essentially the same reasons.

Noted Amazon will drop prices through x-mas day to get rid of inventory. If your interests intersect, you can pickup some items at a substantial discount.
