Ever wonder why iPhone users often seem to have the same personality, or why you could never understand an Android fan?

UK researchers finally developed a test that could predict what kind of cellphone a user is likely to have, and here are the conclusions:

A comparison of both Android and iPhone users revealed that iPhone users are more likely to be:

        Younger
More than twice as likely to be women
More likely to see their phone as a status object
        More extraverted
Less concerned about owning devices favoured by most people

In contrast, Android users were more likely to be:

        Male
        Older
        More honest
        More agreeable
Less likely to break rules for personal gain
Less interested in wealth and status

The full article is paywalled but an abstract is avilable.

Now if only there was a way to separate correlation and causation...

When you need to nuke your phone and install a 3rd party operating system (in my case, I had to install cyanogenmod on my galaxy s3) just to make the phone *usable*, there is something SERIOUSLY wrong.

Usability is a small problem. The important things are privacy and respecting user freedoms. iPhones are locked-down proprietary pieces of garbage which deny the users their four freedoms, and so are Android phones (they include many proprietary blobs). Users are at the mercy of the phone manufacturers when it comes to their privacy, security, and freedom; it should not be that way. Looking at it just from the perspective of usability is missing the point.

    Usability is a small problem.

Which goes to show you're definitely not an Apple customer. Apple stuff is popular with people that like their technology tools with good usability.

I like all of my other tools to be usable too. Hammers with wooden shafts rather than metal. Screwdrivers that are magnetic, and have smooth rubberised handles, not angular plastic ones, etc.
