Web users in the UK will be banned from accessing websites portraying a range of non-conventional sexual acts, under a little discussed clause to a government bill currently going through parliament.

The proposal, part of the digital economy bill, would force internet service providers to block sites hosting content that would not be certified for commercial DVD sale by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC).

[...] Pictures and videos that show spanking, whipping or caning that leaves marks, and sex acts involving urination, female ejaculation or menstruation as well as sex in public are likely to be caught by the ban – in effect turning back the clock on Britain's censorship regime to the pre-internet era.

The scale of the restrictions only became apparent after the BBFC, which has since 1984 been empowered to classify videos for commercial hire or sale, agreed to become the online age verification regulator last month. A spokeswoman for the BBFC said it would also check whether sites host "pornographic content that we would refuse to classify".

[...] . A spokesman for DCMS [Department for Culture, Media and Sport] said the government's aim is to ensure that the same "rules and safeguards" that exist in the physical world also apply online.

    C. S. Lewis:
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

The citizens of the UK are so screwed. Missionary style of course, anything else just wouldn't be conventional.

And yet liberals can not conceive how rural voters "vote against their interests" by supporting republicans.

You realise this has been brought in by a right wing government? May's tories are equivalent of the republicans.

I'm not familiar with UK politics, but I think it's worthy to note that some people on the left are much closer to those on the right than people at the center.

Example: Most people believe women should be free to wear what they want.
In the case of "excessively revealing" clothing (whatever that means) the less-radical leftists say something like, "You go girl!" Meanwhile, the people even further to the left will - if the scantily-clad woman is not a lesbian - say something to the effect of, "You are displaying yourself to men as a sex object, and you are demeaning yourself by way of your internalized misogyny. Cover yourself up."

You realize that has absolutely no bearing on the quote?

When the right goes on their anti-porn crusades, it has less to do with some notion of improvement of their fellow man, but serving their God's will so that He can redeem them (or at least they can score some easy heaven points). The missionaries who slaughtered heathens had nothing on the noblesse oblige who without a hint of irony purse eradicating the less desirable in the name of saving them. That's a special kind of crazy all unto itself.

When the left goes on their anti-porn crusades, it is to render women sexless in the name of saving them from the cruel intentions of men, and some re-education for the men so they can better serve to be "equals" by rejecting the whole of male sexuality as debasing. You know, all sex is rape. Even the right isn't that fucked-up.

So two similar actions, but completely different motivations, which isn't that the point of the quote?

No doubt being bent over a barrel will be off the naughty list too.
