According to /u/Spez, Reddit CEO, the reports of messages edited without any user consent or knowledge are correct as he admits to have done it so himself:
Hey Everyone,
Yep. I messed with the "fuck u/spez" comments, replacing "spez" with r/the_donald mods for about an hour. It's been a long week here trying to unwind the r/pizzagate stuff. As much as we try to maintain a good relationship with you all, it does get old getting called a pedophile constantly. As the CEO, I shouldn't play such games, and it's all fixed now. Our community team is pretty pissed at me, so I most assuredly won't do this again.
Fuck u/spez.
The edits were made in a thread linked from the Washington Post which described the recent ban of the /r/pizzagate subreddit which tried to uncover child-molesters and recently moved to voat.co.

Great, a for-the-children lynch mob. Because we don't have enough hysteria about pedophiles and child molesters as it is. I'm sure that will turn out well.
Reddit, along with its community, is a shithole. Who here doesn't have it blackholed in their hosts file or similar? Come on now.

Pizzagate was banned because it originated in the Wikileaks emails from the DNC. Wikileaks has been deemed illegal to view by regular US citizens, and Reddit complied.
There is a lot of meat here that isn't "think of the children." There are legitimate concerns of child trafficking associated with John Podesta.
This is what the mainstream media has dubbed, "fake news." Fake news is not reporting on it.

Haw haw, what kind of bullcrap you trying to peddle today? "Deemed illegal" by whom, and under what authority?
The only valid threat the government can make in regards to viewing of information is something they have already used: the US miltiary sent out formal general warnings that any holder of government-issued security clearances would lose said clearances if they were discovered to have viewed classified information released by Wikileaks. That's it.
Take your weaksauce lies elsewhere - we ain't buying.
