The BBC reports that supporters of US President-elect Donald Trump are urging a boycott of the Star Wars film, Rogue One, next week, over claims that scenes had been reshot after the election to make the film more of a thinly-veiled jab linking the president-elect to racism.

Supporters of Donald Trump are urging a boycott of the Star Wars film, Rogue One, due for US release next week.

The campaign began with a series of tweets from activist Jack Posobiec, who claimed the writers changed the film to add scenes linking Mr Trump to racism.

Screenwriter Chris Weitz said that this was "completely fake", though he and another writer have tweeted their opposition to the US president-elect.

#DumpStarWars has been retweeted 120,000 times in the past 24 hours.

In a Periscope video, Jack Posobiec, who is an activist with Citizens for Trump, claimed the writers had said the Empire in the film "is a white supremacist organization like the Trump administration and the diverse rebels are going to defeat them".

"They're trying to make the point of using this movie to push the false narrative... that Trump is a racist." he said.

I do not see it that way.

We live in a world where information is cherry picked by our lying brains. http://blog.dilbert.com/post/154289405111/the-time-that-reality-forked-right-in-front-of-you#_=_ [dilbert.com]

It's interesting he failed to see the 3rd reality. Neither Literal Hitler nor the Randian Bootstrapper who will make America great again, we elected a confidence man with a big ego and a great act.

I'm going to guess that in 4 years, when America still isn't great again and the swamp hasn't been drained, we'll hear that he just needs 4 more years to make America great again and drain the swamp.

      Yeah, not buying it.

For not being evolved to understand reality, we certainly do a pretty good job of it (the LHC being either being the best group delusion that ever was or a testament to mankind's continued search for truth beyond). Adams is essentially reducing everything to opinion, which does have a bit of truth, but he is overplaying his hand.

Mostly what I see is people putting forth shit "arguments", either to harmonize with their particular cult or reinforce their point of view. You see it on Facebook as much as here, with the most trite and obvious comments modded to death, and anything opposed banished from sight. It is memetic theory writ large.

And unless you are a part of that crowd, no one else is buying it.

Somewhat reasonable people will allow that even though they favor a particular side, there are good points made by the opposition; and in any case there is some cause for uncertainty.

Problem is no one is making good points anymore, and just talking past each other.

That has become a lost art. Who does this anymore?

I propose a guide: unless you're being accused of being left wing or right wing in equal measure, you're not making good points. It's not that we strive for false equivalence, but that there's so very much infantile fabrication and wish fulfillment that is scripted as political persuasion anymore.

Disagree. At no point in time was someone like Buckley accused of being left wing, but he certainly argued the case for conservatism effectively. Similarly the politics for Vidal weren't under question, but had far more substance than what is seen with the left now.
