Hi Guys, Soylent's Editors do a lot behind the scenes to keep the community going. As a gift idea for them this year, please consider submitting lots of stories over the next two days to get the queue nice and full. Then they'll be able to schedule in their appearance on the home page ahead of time and take Christmas (or Hanukkah) off to spend time with their friends and families.

If you've never submitted a story before, here are guidelines for composing a story submission. You submit it here.

My own method is to find tech/science articles from SN's RSS-bot or a dozen other sources like the BBC or sciencenews.org, grab the title, and a couple of paragraphs that communicate the gist. Often I'll add a quip, question, or note of my own, but that's up to your personal taste. It's easy and takes under 5 minutes per story.

Thanks for reading, and have a happy holiday!

[Ed Note: The week between Christmas and New Years is always slow for submissions and time is a precious commodity for all of us. The more subs in the queue, the further out we can get the story queue, and the more time we have to spend with our loved ones. Any help you can give would be appreciated!]

Holiday schedule, during which Odin the Allfather will be leading the Wild Hunt:

Hanukkah began Dec 6 sunset, ended Dec 14 sunset, so that one's done and gone now.

    Saturnalia began Dec 17.

Solstice occurred Dec 21 at 10:44 UTC, so that one's done and gone now. Friends and I celebrated on Wednesday. Now to await equinox, which will occur Mar 20, at 10:29 UTC.

Today (Dec 23) is Festivus and the final day of Saturnalia.

Dec 25 0:00 UTC Santa departs the north pole for various Pacific islands to begin his warp 9.95 journey across the globe. Also Dec 25 is Christmas Day.

Kwanzaa begins Dec 26 with Umoja ending Jan 1 with Imani.

Then everybody gets a big hangover.

At least it's not a warp 10 journey. I already have enough salamanders.

Chanukah in 2016 will start on Sunday, the 25th of December and will continue for 8 days until Sunday, the 1st of January. Note that in the Jewish calander, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day, so observing Jews will celebrate Chanukah on the sunset of Saturday, the 24th of December. http://www.when-is.com/chanukah-2016.asp [when-is.com]

It changes from year to year. I'm not even Jewish! And also: a tip-top Tet, and a solemn, dignified Ramadan. -Krusty
