Think twice before complaining on your next Korean Air flight - flight crew can now use Tasers to deal with mid-air disturbances. The airline has made the decision to loosen its Taser usage policy after a violent incident on a flight last week resulted in 80s pop star Richard Marx having to subdue an unruly passenger.
On-board crew already have had Tasers on hand for years but could only use them when lives or the physical safety of passengers and cabin crew was threatened. But new rules will allow for "more active use" of Tasers, a Korean Air spokesperson told CNN.

You hear a lot of people getting escorted off planes for tantrums and actual attacks, but you never hear what becomes of them. Truth is, its usually nothing, not even a fine. They get a talk, and then they walk. Maybe banned by that airline for a while. Ohhh Scary.
There's probably no other single place where people can't just run away from the unruly assholes, so maybe a few volts would be the best solution. Left alone the ragers would see they are getting away with anything they want and pretty soon they'd own the plane.

Just wait until a clever passenger (maybe one with some martial arts training?) manages to get the tazer away from the crew member. Seems like it would cause all kinds of havoc if applied to the aircraft electrical system...

Unless the crew have combat knife training, it's the same problem -- a passenger could easily be quicker and in better practice than the crew member.

While not at all sporting, a rule could perhaps be made forbidding passengers from unsheathing their swords during flights.
This being Korean Air Lines, it's safe to assume that the crew are superbly trained in a variety of martial arts.

They’re not that dangerous or damaging. Tazers and stunguns in general only work if the current goes through the heart. Otherwise it’s just a minor annoyance. The barbs do more damage.
I doubt they would do anything to an aircraft electrical system. Most likely the aircraft would shock you, instead of you shocking it.

No, that is exactly the scenario that makes them dangerous. They are designed and meant to be used such that the current *doesn't* go through the heart.

My Taser has a wrist strap with an enabling plug. Take the Taser out of my hand and it won't work.
